Royce White in Ames today

I think ISU has a lot to offer White. The new practice facility can compete with those others. Ames is just 2 1/2 hours down the interstate for him which seems to be important. And no other coach in the nation has more NBA GM's on speed dial than coach H, remember. Also Kentucky is absolutley loaded with NBA talent. Would he really want to compete for playing time when he could come to Ames and be the man right away?
Baylor, yes, we definitely have better facilities. Kentucky? We don't TOUCH Rupp Arena.
Does anybody know if Tubby Smith and Hoiberg are close at all? Maybe Tubby has given Hoiberg a good endorsement to White. It's hard to imagine that Tubby and Fred haven't rubbed elbows once or twice with them both being in the Twin Cities for a few years.
Yeah, cuz you can give a good endorsement to a kid you kicked off the team.

And also got their back-up center drafted in the first round...getting to the NBA from Kentucky is clearly not an issue.

Our chances always greatly improve when he get a potential athlete on campus. ISU has a beautiful campus (especially this time of year), practice facility, and arena. A face to face visit with Coach Hoiberg and TJ will go a long ways. I like our chances much better today knowing that he is visiting.

Putting out first round draft picks, and Rookie of the Year winners every year is much better than just having the phone number of every NBA GM. Calipari wins.

Still don't like this move. We're just getting over a season full of team issues and we're talking about bringing in a guy with his history? I really hope Hoiberg knows what he is doing.

The former "team issues" had a TON to do with McD's poor coaching tenure. "Issues" that you are speaking of were his fault with his lack of control with the program.

That's what I am thinking too. Before, ISU was trying to get him on campus but couldn't. Now, he is here. That is a huge step in the right direction.

This would be awesome if we could land Royce, assuming he's "grown up" and moved past his terrible, TERRIBLE decision-making-phase.

He's a legit 5 star talent. Think how huge that would be for Fred as he kicks off his career!?

From what I was hearing, our chances have been much better than 5% since we got in on RW. Him visiting only prooves that. I'm staying positive today and hoping for the best :)

Screw the bears and the cats Royce! A CYCLONE would destroy them both easily!

Think he will be a Clone. Heard he would be eligible 2nd semester if everything goes right.

Don't believe this is true. He would be eligible Fall 2011, he has to sit out one year, and he was on the Gopher team roster in Spring 2011. And since he didn't leave in good academic standing, Iowa State (or any other school) can't pay any of his scholarship money until he regains good academic standing. Which should mean they can't pay for the first semester.

The bigger question is whether he can get admitted to Iowa State. Maybe that's what they're trying to clear up with this visit. I don't believe Iowa State will admit anyone that doesn't leave a university in good academic standing. And numerous people i've talked to have told me that he didn't leave U of MN in good academic standing.

EDIT: really makes you wonder how in the world Baylor is in the mix right now. It's one of the toughest admissions in the Big 12, and as a private elite school, i find it astounding they would admit someone who leaves another institution in poor academic standing.

I'm torn between two thoughts:
1) You don't get ahead without taking a chance somewhere along the way.
2) Does White's history suggest that this chance is worth it? Are the odds good that he can actually keep his head straight and not get himself in trouble?

If he can stay out of trouble, than it's a no-brainer. Have to take him. If not, then he could be a bad start for a new coach.

I think Royce is low risk high reward. If he still has issues, he's kicked off the team and we all move on. FH cuts his losses, no biggie. If Royce turns it around and plays like he can, we win games, Royce goes to the NBA, and FH's recruiting/coaching cred skyrockets.

Fully agree with these statements.

Man, we could have a solid squad next year. If White were to committ, give Ejim a year to develop, and we add Babb and Cook....man.

perhaps baylor knows something you don't? maybe they have done more then just read the message boards on this subject? i honestly don't know but if what you're saying is true, i seriously doubt he is in such poor academic standing.
