Royce White headed to D-league??

This will not end well for Royce.
Whether Houston is living up to their end of the deal or not, they win this PR battle. It's pretty simple:
1) They can say "we support Royce," and they are saying that. As far as we know, they're living up to things.
2) Guy isn't showing up to work, and trashes his employer in public. That's usually not a good strategy.
3) Fans stick with their team, not the guy that hasn't been off the bench yet.
4) Other teams are paying attention, and they can find guys without these problems.

I don't like this at all. I want the best for Royce, and I'm hoping that this isn't it.

"Royce White" is trending nationwide on twitter right now....just sayin.

For some reason I thought Royce would be in the NBA longer than Fizer. Not if he keeps this up probably.

He is saying he wants to be treated better, however didn't he say at one point during the draft process that he wouldnt have issues flying if he had to?

So, if I am understanding Royce right, people with mental disorders should refuse to do their job until people cater to their needs? If he wants to do something for people with mental illness, show the world that you can learn to deal with your anxiety and excel in what you do. I understand it is not as easy as "learning to deal with anxiety", but my point remains the same-- nothing good can using your mental illness as a crutch for refusing to do your job.

I agree with all of this. Royce has turned into a diva before ever stepping foot into an NBA game. This is not good, he would have definitely been well-served to stay another year in college to mature some.

Throwing your employer, who has already invested millions of dollars in you, under the bus like this is highly inadvisable. If he has a PR strategist working for him, he needs to be fired and replaced. If he doesn't have one, he needs to get one ASAP.

I think we're all witnesses to a meltdown here, folks. I mean that not in any clinical/mental sense, but the meltdown of the relationship and very possibly of Royce's NBA career.

His "platform" is evaporating before our eyes. He's no longer the media darling, the guy everyone is rooting for. He's now the head case who won't go to practice, holding out for this, that, or the other thing.

One way to fix it: STFU NOW and play. That's it.

This is really agonizing.

Houston fan killing @highway_30 right now. He's got a long way to go earn respect from a majority of their fan base. Kills me now watching Royce during grantland video. "They took a chance on me." and it's been followed up with all this crap.

agreed with most posts here...I'll continue to support Royce but he's turning in to the Lolo Jones of the NBA.

No, Lolo Made the team and actually ran the races. Royce hasn't done anything yet. He is letting his disorder win in my opinion.

We all know Royce isn't a diva, because we all know of personal stories about him stopping for pics with people's children, shaking hands, etc. Royce knew he had our support, and he reacted in kind.

NBA fans don't have that quasi-personal relationship with him. They don't know who he is or care what he does after a game - they want him to perform. They just don't care about his platform - not yet, anyway, and he isn't endearing himself to them.

He is hurting his own cause, both literally and figuratively. He is hurting his career, but he is also making it look like anxiety sufferers are high-maintenance prima donnas - and he is anything but that. I do NOT advocate for him hurtin his health, but he also has to make some concessions.

MAI adore Royce, I hope this works out.

The previous statement I quoted was released by his publicist.

Royce White not with Houston Rockets, but still has team's support - ESPN

Two thoughts:

1) No chance he was telling teams he would need all of this special treatment when they were interviewing him around the draft. I'm sure he took the tune of "my fear of flying isn't a big deal" and "I had no anxiety problems that caused me to miss games at Iowa State." Then all of the sudden to start throwing around demands?

2) He's playing in a league where maybe 5% of the players are able to make unruly demands and get their way. I would also argue that less than 25% of players are indispensable, and the rest are a dime-a-dozen. There are no shortage of 6-4" to 6-8" guys that can run the floor, shoot and play some defense. This league isn't going to put up with much extra nonsense you are one of those indispensable 25%. I don't doubt that Royce deal withs very real issues that make his life difficult. However, the NBA doesn't care what your issues are-- if you aren't performing you better be a good team guy.
