Robert Hudson Commits

Love this kids story. I hope he doesn't have a relapse and get back on the junk food and soda (he calls it "pop" and I hate that word, ugh!!!)... and I say "relapse" as if it were a drug or something, but it really is. Being addicted to anything bad for you, it is common to go back to that. I hope he loves Ames and fits in with his teammates. I'm sure everyone will make him feel welcome and he probably flipped to ISU because of the family vibe going on. Redshirt him this year and let Manning work his magic and this kid could end up being a dominant college lineman. Something you all may not realize is that this opens things up with Hudson's high school. Everyone at that school will be pulling for him and will be following ISU football now. The coaches at that school will be watching closely and it could result in ISU being in the mix for other kids from that school. I'm not sure how good that team is or what kind of talent they produce though.

Here is the highlights

I actually feel for those kids playing him lol. I've been through that experience with my son. He's a pretty big kid (6'3, 275) but when he played in middle school, he was probably around 6', 225 or so. One kid from Urbandale that he played against had to be 6'4, 300 or so. Just hulked over everyone on the field. Luckily he had no wheels, so my son just collided with him on most plays and that's where it ended, but he told me later it was like running into a wall.

Ha ha.....he quit playing after 8th grade. He played really well at center and DT (especially center) from 5th to 8th grade, and I think he has the natural build to have been pretty good if he had wanted to put in the work. He just didn't enjoy the game, and like a lot of big dudes, hated to run. He actually came out of practice 10 minutes late one day as the other guys left the locker room a mess and he picked it all up so they wouldn't have to run hills the next day lol.

I had a similar experience. My son was a two year varsity starter on the OL at a 4A school in Indiana. He was 6'3", 240 lbs. He was a really good lineman, but there were two instances where I was in fear for his well being. Once was when he was playing against an Indiana recruit that was 6'8" and 340 lbs. The other was when he was playing against the Heavy Weight State Champion in Indiana that later started on the DL at Miami of Ohio as a freshman. Dudes arms were as big as his legs and he was a freak athlete.

Big is relative.

Great story and I really hope this kid comes in and works as hard as he has over the last four years. If he does, there's not much he won't be able to accomplish.

Man, what a great story. I have no doubts that our staff will establish a great relationship with this kid and they will put his great work ethic to work. This kid could end up being an absolute monster.

I love that this staff is recruiting offensive lineman that already have size instead of going for kids with frame potential. We all know how the latter strategy worked out...

Don't forget the 4 Liters of pop a day as well. YIKES. And I thought my brother eating 4 McChickens and/or McDoubles was a lot. Not 8 each.

I got diabetes just reading that!

Kid has made a LIFETIME of significant changes in just a year or so. The power of someone else taking an interest is on full display and his guardians should be very proud of what they did for him and what Hudson did for himself.

Welcome big man!

Is this a comparison between Seda, a walk-on who played in 6 games for us, to a guy we're giving a 5 year scholarship to?

...let's hope we get more return from R Hudson. Welcome Robert.

I believe it was an example of how our current OL coach and staff were able to turn a walk on like Seda into a serviceable player. If they can do that, they can teach this big dude better footwork and turn his size and athleticism into a great offensive lineman. Don't try and read so much into things.

That is a crazy story...everyone should give that a read. He has only been playing OT for 1 year. Give this guy 3 years and he could be a beast
OK, and I did read, great story! Welcome to Ames Robert, you will do great!

Perhaps the most optimistic part of the story is how much he gravitates to the coaching staff as family and thrives on the discipline of conditioning. This should help him stay on the wagon and improve during college. Let's get him on campus ASAP. And maybe hire his high school coach.

Seems like a great kid who has a great story. This kid could really become a stud under Manning.

A kid that knows how to work hard for things will thrive under Campbell/Manning. Sounds like he's just starting to tap into his potential. We just saw what Manning can do with unhearalded guys when he has them for only 10 months, now imagine this kid in two years. Imagine him and Sean Foster as bookends in a couple years...

Victor Alexander was our first in basketball. Lol I remember when the basketball staff had him banned from McDs on Welch.
