Robert Hudson Commits

you can never tell with kids like this that are sooooo much bigger than their opponents, i cant judge olinemen, those who can, opinions? That one time I saw an end try to get with him and he seemed to move his feet well.
I know one guy said they thought his feet were slow. I thought he actually looked really good when you factor in he has only played OL for 1 year...and you can't teach that size

It'll be interesting to see his development. Clearly a lot of drive, but also obviously on a different level than his high school opponents.

Kid was playing DT..just started playing OT this year..I don't care about his feet right now..A good P5 program and teacher (Manning) can get that worked out. He's a beast run blocking and has good leverage. Seda had terrible footwork in pass protection but he was serviceable and a OL who hadn't played one single snap of college fball until last year.

This kids story is awesome..I'll take 100 kids with this kind of dedication and desire.

In case anyone is interested...a scouting report on RH:

Hudson shows elite length and a frame to add more size. Has above average play strength with ability to add more strength as he develops. Has adequate athletic ability at this point to play in space.

Pass Protection
Projection at this point to OT. Developing footwork to work in his pass set. Added ability to bend in his set along with redirect will benefit his game. Raw, strong with developing pass pro technique.

Run Blocking
Physical with a nasty streak. Finishes and has the ability to drop his hips to gain power in his lower body. Developing foot and hand placement to consistently control the defender.

Toughness
Desired toughness and physicality to play in any scheme. Type of physicality and toughness where he will be able to run behind once his technique refines.

Bottom Line
Hudson is a DL making a projection to OT as a Power 5 prospect. Has many physical traits that show his ability to develop at the position. Raw positional skills at this point that once developed can bring out a multi- year starter as a Power 5 player.

I agree. After watching the interview with the Detroit Free Press, seems like this kid has just scratched his potential. Very impressive for a HS freshman to reshape his life in the way he did. I have no doubt this kid will be super coachable.

It looks like he's going to have to work hard on his pad level, but that's probably issue number one for most guys his height. Excited to see what Manning can do with him.

I love studying Line play, either side of the ball.

His D-line film isn't great. Poor use of his hands. Just a big unmovable force.

His O-line film is okay but Manning plus dedicated strength and conditioning will offer him the opportunity to improve at a dramatic pace. He seems to have a mean streak and his size is great. His hip level is okay. I think it sometimes looks bad because he is playing against much smaller kids. His feet aren't great but conditioning will change that. One really noticeable thing is his lack of hand punch. Luckily that can be coached up and his weight training will help also.

Is this a comparison between Seda, a walk-on who played in 6 games for us, to a guy we're giving a 5 year scholarship to?

...let's hope we get more return from R Hudson. Welcome Robert.

Love the pick up. He's raw but good technique and footwork can be taught. Size, length, aggression, and tireless dedication can't be coached and Rob obviously has all of that going for him. Takes a special person to go through what he went through and work hard enough to get where he's at. I still can't decide if I'm more disgusted or impressed by the 8 mcchicken/mcdouble thing o_O

Don't forget the 4 Liters of pop a day as well. YIKES. And I thought my brother eating 4 McChickens and/or McDoubles was a lot. Not 8 each.

He's a road grader. He drops his hips well for a tall kid, and his lateral movement isn't bad. Give him two years in the weight room and he will be a monster IMO.

Interesting that most of the plays had him pulling, I would think that you could get 4 yards a play just running behind him at the high school level. Can only help that his improvement continues and he becomes a 3 or 4 year starter.
