Maybe we need to become a juco school on the oline.Recruiting is easier for fans to accept when real problem might be talent development.
Recruiting talent is not only about stars.
It's about personality evaluation, potential growth, and a winning mentality. From there it's developing that talent and acquiring more talent by winning and outrecruiting what is currently available.
I think it is safe to say Rhoads has missed a lot here. We've recruited a lot of small players who have no room to grow. We've recruited a lot of players that make "mental mistakes." Our program doesn't really have any identity. We've recruited players without a "winning mentality."

Yep, Bundrage hasn't improved at all, neither has Watson, Brackens, George, Irving, Morrissey, Scott, Washington, Broomfield or Ecby.
Lots of guys who also never improved under Rhoads's coaching: Osemele, Hicks, McDonough, Maggitt, Lattimer, Knott, Klein, Reeves, Givens, Lenz
arghh:
We throw Hail Mary passes to a 5'7" receiver.
No matter how good our 5'7" corner is, he is still 5'7". He's going to have a hard time defending tall receivers.
Our linebacker is 5'11" and all muscle, but that's exactly what he was in high school. Seems to make a lot of mental mistakes too.
David Irving has the potential growth to be a great player, but does he have the mentality?
Please. In 2009, we won at Nebraska, and looked halfway decent in a bowl game (and won!). In 2010, we handily beat Northern Ill, totally shut down UNI, won at Texas, and scored 52 points in beating TTech. We couldn't any of those things now. We've looked terrible in our last two bowls. CPR inherited more talent than he has accumulated since.
Tiller. You know who else was here then on the offensive side of the ball?
I didn't understand that but I'd blame that more on coaching then anything. Jarvis came to Iowa State after turning down offers from Ole Miss and Nebraska. He's a good player, but it's on the coaching staff to put him in a position to be successful and they didn't do that.
As far as our cornerbacks are concerned, yes they have been short, but how many times has the opponent made a catch because of that?
Teams pick on our corners. Sam Richardson got picked on vs. UNI. Remember Army's big unathletic receiver that just caught it over Jeremy Reeves?

Are you on crack? Most of us have always believed that Rhoads has always gotten more out of less. And the talent level seems to be dropping off every year. We'll probably pull of 1-2 unthinkable wins again this year, and hear the speeches. That should keep the excitement alive. And as long as the excitement is alive, the negatives are forgotten.
That guy was like 6'8. That's not really fair because Reeves could have been 6' and still had trouble.
Arnaud was better.I still think the defense looked solid. A couple mistakes, but they are a defense that could get us in the top half of the conference. As far as offense, our receivers are the most talented they've been. IMO, Richardson is the best QB we've had under Rhoads and our running backs our solid, as well as tight ends. Our line is bad, but it all comes back to Mess, IMO. I believe the talent is there to be our best offense yet, but poor game planning and play calling that started last season have carried over into this year.
Arnaud was better.
Corners play 10 yards off because the safeties cheat up to help with the run. Washingtons tackle count should make that obvious.
So with that philosophy, would our 5'7" corners have trouble with anyone over 6'3"?
