Because Hoiberg hasn't shown himself to be a capable recruiter in less than a year here - what is next year's recruiting class rated - something like #16 nationally and #3 in the Big 12 (I can't find the thread)? Is Billy Gillespie even capable of recruiting like that here?
ace pipe, I need to amend my signature...
This will probably be the end of schools hiring legendary coaches sons as their head coaches. Don't know why people think that will work.
Honestly, I'm not even sure why Keno went to Providence. Providence isn't really that different in profile from Drake, only they play in a much more difficult conference to be successful. I understand a coach's need to step up and take new challenges, but I just don't see Providence as much of a "step up" compared to Drake, but yet Providence is faced with a 3-month gauntlet of challenges known as the Big East, compared to Drake seeing MVC opponents.
This firing is NOT good news for ISU.
Would you elaborate?
I agree. The right coach could turn TT into a top 25 power-house. With all the talent to recruit down in Texas. I think the rise of the south schools in basketball is a major factor in ISU's inability over the last 10 years to get their footing back. While ISU was making runs in the late 90's/00's teams like Baylor/Tech/A$M were all pretty terrible. Not so much anymore.

Hmm....perhaps. I think, though, that the following played a much bigger part in ISU's downfall:

Everyone knows that Hoiberg loves west Texas!
He's shown the ability to provide a safe landing spot for kids that had problems at previous universities. Not sure that is a true test of ones ability to recruit, but time will tell.
