REPORT: Pat Knight fired at Texas Tech

Gillipsie=Hack. Never really understood the amore for this guy. Not a great in-game tactician, and he is ugly as sin.

Really? What he did at UTEP and the A&M was pretty amazing. Sure it didn't work out at Kentucky but a lot of that was caused by off the court stuff. A&M hadn't been to the NCAA's in 18 years before he took over and he got them there in his second year and had them a top ten team and into the sweet 16 in just three years. That's a pretty impressive turnaround.

Still wish Billy had landed in Ames.

With the Mayor as coach, I really don't care what happens at Texas Tech unless Billy is best friends with TJ Otzelberger.

What did he do at UTEP? He was there for 2 years and lost his only tournament appearance.

Tom Izzo? What a disaster this year has been for them. In all seriousness, I would look at Dr. Junior, otherwise known as Keno Davis. His program has imploded.

Honestly, I'm not even sure why Keno went to Providence. Providence isn't really that different in profile from Drake, only they play in a much more difficult conference to be successful. I understand a coach's need to step up and take new challenges, but I just don't see Providence as much of a "step up" compared to Drake, but yet Providence is faced with a 3-month gauntlet of challenges known as the Big East, compared to Drake seeing MVC opponents.

Big East school vs. MVC school. To me, it is a no-brainer. With any kind of success, he will set himself up for the Iowa job once Fran burns away. Big East is the premiere conference right now. MVC is back to junk. In the words of Pink Floyd: "Did you exchange a walk-on part in the war, for the lead role in a cage?"

Took over a team that hadn't been to the NCAA's since 1992 and got them there in his second year and left a pretty solid team behind when he moved on.

Billy is a pretty capable recruiter. Don't think he would need TJ's help.

Because Hoiberg hasn't shown himself to be a capable recruiter in less than a year here - what is next year's recruiting class rated - something like #16 nationally and #3 in the Big 12 (I can't find the thread)? Is Billy Gillespie even capable of recruiting like that here?

I was hoping ISU hired Billy Gillispie, but i am VERY happy with Hoiberg being here. During the process of finding a coach, i was hoping for BG.

He had a top 25 class at UTEP. If you can recruit like that in the WAC, you can recruit in the B12.
