Then assume you are cool with probably a bigger step back next year. Because the elephant in the room was always there, and it just got kicked down the road further.
ISU was a bubble team without the 2 grad transfers this past season, and once Bowie figured out his game late in the year, him transferring finally paid dividends and ISU had a better year than what I expected.
And that's not to say Prohm could have pulled a sit out transfer or 2 last spring, but most certainly the attention was, especially after the Malou situation, to find guys who could come in and play right away even though that meant a turnover of around 50% of your roster at the end of this year
So maybe you went from a bubble this past year and bubble next year doing the sit out transfer option, to a Top 25 this past season and maybe NIT next season since there was still a chasm of no players between seniors and frosh.
And to be fair Prohm at that time did not know he would land one of the best recruits ISU ever had commit, so to your point maybe he had to go all in.
Personally I am fine with it, would rather play frosh/soph's +Jackson and let chips fall where they may. Continue to focus on balancing out the classes more. I think next year probably look at a need to fill 4 open scholarships, maybe 3, a much better situation than 7.
I will be happy when spring comes and ISU fans can start talking about the football recruiting and basketball class they are looking to sign in November, and not scouring the grad transfer list for 3 guys they hope to catch lightning in a bottle with.
