I disagree that just because he didn't commit right away, then we are out. Obviously he didn't have a great experience at Nebraska and now wants to be thorough in finding the right fit. Not surprised at all that he'd take the full allotment of visits before making a decision, even if the first or second visit was the final choice.
We were in contact early, he's played against us and gave us one of his visits. I'm not saying it's a done deal to ISU, but let's also let it play out before we fret too much.
Fred should receive some blame but I think it's more than balanced by the credit he should get for pulling ISU out of a terrible situation. I'm not a Fred fanboy at all. In fact, I grow tired of people swinging from his ****, but I call it as I see it and he's WAY on the positive side of the ledger.
The results are the only thing that matters.
History isn't irrelevant.
When Fred was getting transfers top programs weren't going after them. We can't compete with some of these programs just as Fred couldn't. Remember Vaughn? Very similar situation to the juiston one.
I didn't expect him to commit on his visit.
I'm saying that if we don't get a commitment this week and he goes on to take visits, I think your odds go way down.
The next 48 hours are crucial to land Morrow, IMO.
I love Ames and everything Iowa State.
But I think it'd be really fun to live in Vegas as a 20 year old kid. Especially for only a year or so.
And doubly so for a student athlete
Good lord people. So he didn't get the roster situated for class balance two years after he was gone? That isn't his problem. The new coach has to figure out how to deal with the roster situation.
You're putting too little blame on Fred, just as many are putting too much blame on Fred.
No the Bulls are now his problem, and it might be a problem that he cannot solve.
In terms of Prohm, he should have avoided the grad transfer last year and probably bit the bullet and focused more on 2 sit out out guys. It would have angered the masses but it would have avoided having to fill 7 this year. You end up with a shorter bench, but at some point you have to bite the bullet, balance the classes out no matter how painful. Just waited a year too long to do it.
There isn't any blame to put on Fred. Did Fred blame McDermott for not leaving him anyone for his 3rd year? That is not how it works, especially in a sport where it takes one class to turn a program around. In addition, Prohm has two more spots to fill in this class due to Morris and Long being here a year longer than he thought he would have them. There are years where things just fall that you have 6 or 7 spots to fill and that is just college basketball. I just don't understand this thinking that Fred should have planned the roster out and head Prohm set up for year 3??!! that is asinine and makes no sense at all.
Or taken just one grad transfer in Bowie and maybe recruited a JUCO big he new was going to be eligible or like you said a sit out guy. Some of Prohms decisions rest on his shoulders. Carter is also someone they hoped would mature and get better but that never happened. That is not on Fred or Prohm that is just part of college basketball.
I don't care what anyone says- Shayok is a top tier transfer.
Except for that little incident in the adult theater, I thought everybody liked Fred Willard.
Well I think the point most make is that Fred failed to land high school talent his last couple of years, because he could not commit to staying. Fred did not plan for the roster cuz Fred knew he knew he was leaving. Those things cannot be disputed.
Prohm also knew what he was getting into, so I don't feel sorry for him either. As mentioned he probably should have not brought in Bowie and Holden, and focus on the post Monte/Naz situation more. But cannot change the past.
Still I am going to give him time to offset what amounts to a 2 year blackhole, where nobody seemed to care about or had the ability to plan for the future.
