RECRUITING: Post Morrow visit update

I prefer the top high school players and two-year transfers to build continuity. Great two-year players are proven. I'm not impressed by most Jucos. It's a big jump from Juco to D1 basketball and they seem to (with exceptions) not work out. Always build your core base in case the 5th year transfers don't choose us. Not such a blow if they don't.

Agree, and that type of thing can pay dividends long term too, as juco and high school coaches bring up other players. Always good to have the coach on your side.

Definitely agree. Coach Smith and the Oak Hill staff were impressed with Prohm's persistence. Not a bad high school program to have a positive relationship with.

I understand perfectly how recruiting works, but this is the second year in a row of bad transfer results.

FIFY. If you have paid attention, CSP recruited Juiston as early and as often and as personally as anyone. Criticize the fact that the staff didn't get everyone they went after, sure....but I don't think their tactics are bad. Just the results.

Not much matters besides results though.

What percentage of the guys we go after do we need to sign to make you feel happy?

Is it 100%? 75%? What? It's not like we can just draft guys. I'm asking for a percentage from you because it seems that you are a Fred fan, and think he never lost out on players either.

What say you?

Can I ask how anyone is upset with our current recruiting? I mean we have a 5 star coming in. Another kid that is ESPN top 60. That is the first time we have had that in years if ever. We have McNeil who some recruiting services are saying he is under rated. We might get a huge transfer with this kid from Nebraska. Sure we missed on some kids. So does Coach K. So does Bill Self. It happens. We are not a blue blood yet. It's not like we lost these kids to horrible programs. Other than Juiston. However, If we were battling Missouri State or Drake and lost a recruit. I would be concerned. I think everyone realistically thought next year was a rebuilding year anyway.

Maybe you should check out who is recruiting Beverly besides ISU.

So what. Go back and see who was recruiting Wesley Johnson, Go back and see who was recruiting Shakur Juiston out of high school.
Maybe you should go read what the post said that I responded to. The person said they would be concerned if we are losing recruits to lower level programs and I pointed out that there doesn't appear to be much competition from P5 schools for Beverly. Seems like people are certainly quick to get defensive aren't they.

We haven't lost Beverly, so what's your point?

Whatever it takes to fill holes sufficiently enough to make the tournament. It doesn't matter if that means going after two and hitting 100% or going after 20 and hitting 10%.

I'm not a Fred fan and believe he's significantly to blame for needing so much this spring. Recruiting preps is a lot different than recruiting guys in the spring for the following season. I'm not sold on this staff being good at the latter, but hopefully the further we get from Hoiberg's last couple years we won't need it quite as much.

That doesn't surprise me.
