Recruiting - GC is the man.

I'm not saying that, but instead of defending your team and arguing the comments made by NU Follower of a bottom 3rd finish in the North, you guys start zinging insults and name calling left and right.

Apparently you didn't read what I wrote last night, so here it is again:

I guess my point in writing this thread was to draw out the fact that in a little over 2 months time GC has been able to put together a class as good or better than what DM was ever able to do. I made no comparisons to UT, NU, OU or anyone else nor did I claim that this was a Top Ten recruiting class.

That said, I am encouraged by the fact that we are getting players that fill needs (OL, DT, CB) and that have attracted interest from other D-1 programs. I've seen way too many profiles in the recent past of players who's only other interest or offer came from D-1AA or mid-major programs. Time will tell whether GC is a great coach or whether JP's vision will pay off. What would you have had ISU do - continue to flounder in mediocrity and hope for better results? ISU has made changes and again, time will tell if the changes will pay off. This is an ISU fan site, so if you do not want to read pro-ISU opinion, this is probably not the best place for you to visit.

Bottom line - I am encouraged by GC's results in a very short amount of time. I was not trying to say that this class was the equal of UT, NU, OU or anyone else. This is a Cyclone fan forum would you rather we discussed the merits of everyone else's recruiting classes?

Yes it is impressive what Chizik has accomplished in a short time. It's not easy for a head coach to take over late in the recruiting season and recruit the players he wants for his system when every other school in the country has had a mulit month head start. It's even harder when you are trying to fill out your coaching staff at the same time.

Time will only tell if Chizik will have the recuriting success of other Big 12 schools. Alot of kids want to to play and play now, so promising immediate PT in area's that ISU needs bodies in, will be a plus this year and next for Chizik out on the recruiting trail.

Was NU Follower out of line for making a season prediction in a recruiting thread? Yes, he was. Was NU Follower out of line comparing ISU's recruiting to that of other Big 12 North schools? No, he wasn't.

In fact, i've long thought of creating a Big 12 North recruiting thread for discussing other schools because I do follow follow and keep track of commitment lists from other Big 12 schools, Iowa St. included. However, knowing that Nebraska sits atop the north, there was no way in hell that I was going to start that thread here because it undoubtedly (sp?) would come acrossed as another arrogant Nebraska fan bragging and showing off.

We're not too far apart here believe it or not. In essence your first two paragraphs are exactly what I was trying to convey with respect to this thread. I think what is drawing the ire of some of the Cyclone Fanatics here is that NU Follower doesn't seem to want allow us even a glimmer of hope. He seems to be consigning GC and ISU FB to the ash heap before the man has had a chance to coach a game. I think you will be hard-pressed to find a fanbase more in touch with brutal reality than ISU. Speaking strictly for myself I am encouraged by the types of players GC is landing, the areas of the country that he is getting them from, and the schools ISU is competing with for their services.

Unlike Nebraska when Callahan took over, the weapons and experienced weapons at that, are there on offense for Chizik (Meyer, Blythe, etc.) to be very potent, biggest question/challenge will be improving the offensive line. Having OU & UT on the schedule when you are rebuilding an offensive line doesn't help, but you never know what will happen until the fall.

Exactly. GC went out and got some JC olinemen and Jamicah Bass at RB. Now, if the OL pans out and the running game can be a credible threat, the offense should be able to sustain some drives and keep the defense off of the field. Big IFS I know, but a win-win scenario if it plays out. Again, I don't think too many ISU fans are calling for a conference championship or national title next year, but it is obvious that a change was needed and we are encouraged by the preliminary results.

URBClone, that's all any one wants, most Nebraska fans included, is for everyone to be competive in the North, because God only knows how medicore the North has been the last couple of years.

So what exactly was the strength of Callahan's recruiting class his first year at Nebraska? I can't tell you the numbers, but I also didn't hear a lot of bragging from Big Red country, either.

So our class is a 2.5 rating. Chizik's done in 2 months what McCarney did in 6 years.

Well, for starters, Callahan wasn't hired until January, so he had even less time than what Chizik has to put together his first class. Callahan's first class was loaded with OL and defensive front 7, 11 out of 20 total between the 2 areas. Some of that class have been major contributors (Brandon Jackson, Grixby, Nunn and Swift). I count at least 5 from Callahan's first class that isn't even on the team anymore.

Major contributors, huh? Yeah, it really shows :rolleyes5cz:
