Recruiting - GC is the man.

I’m just looking for

• solid fundamentals
• good game day clock management
• second half adjustments

I'll worry about other things once I see these. Although I'm not sure I will be able to recognize them right off until the shock subsides.

Let's not put the cart ahead of the horse. This was not a good football team last year, and to think that all of a sudden we will live up to the hype from the fans on this site is way premature.

I hope to see a well coached, fundementally sound team that doesn't beat itself. And a team that plays hard for 60 minutes. If I see that then I will be happy, regardless of the record.

It's not so much it was a bad football team as much as it was a poorly coached football team. We have Chizik coaching last year the defense, while young, wouldn't have been nearly as soft. At least we wouldn't have been playing 10 yards off the receivers. At the very least Chizik would have focused on tackling instead of "letting the high schools worry about that." The o-line would have been a lot more mentally tough, giving Meyer enough time to check down to the second receiver without having to run for his life on every other play. I understand we lose virtually everyone on both lines, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Chizik's gonna put a world of hurt on his players and the team's gonna be better for it. Maybe it won't show up in the win column next year, but I bet we at least look a lot more disciplined. I honestly don't think we'll be the pushover that we shouldn't have been last year.

All I read around here is Chizek is the greatest and that he will have things turned around in a couple of years. I don't think he will b/c he won't get enough good to great players to ISU and then add to the fact that no one knows how he'll do as a first time head coach.

ISU will struggle again next year due to lack of depth across the team and new schemes.

I guess my point in writing this thread was to draw out the fact that in a little over 2 months time GC has been able to put together a class as good or better than what DM was ever able to do. I made no comparisons to UT, NU, OU or anyone else nor did I claim that this was a Top Ten recruiting class.

That said, I am encouraged by the fact that we are getting players that fill needs (OL, DT, CB) and that have attracted interest from other D-1 programs. I've seen way too many profiles in the recent past of players who's only other interest or offer came from D-1AA or mid-major programs. Time will tell whether GC is a great coach or whether JP's vision will pay off. What would you have had ISU do - continue to flounder in mediocrity and hope for better results? ISU has made changes and again, time will tell if the changes will pay off. This is an ISU fan site, so if you do not want to read pro-ISU opinion, this is probably not the best place for you to visit.

ISU will struggle again next year due to lack of depth across the team and new schemes. KSU and CU are both a year ahead of ISU in their transitions. KU will be tough at home, but not much of anything on the road. Missouri has some pretty good talent, but they have Pinkle as their coach.

I don't understand why people say you can't win in Ames, or you can't get the great recruits- who wants to go to ames?? Well who the hell wants to go to Lincoln? For that matter who wants to go to Lawrence to play bball? Why would anyone want to go to South Bend?? Tradition. Someone had to start it. It takes an incredible coach yes, and we hope that Chizik. Forgive us.

The one thing I've heard you say I can't disagree w/ is the Pinkel comment. Never underestimate the ability of Gary to coach his team out of a win.

Let's hope Gene has better control of his team than McD appears to be with guard combo court. This is perhaps McD's worse ball handling team ever.

I realize this is a football thread, but I have a question for NU follower.

How many Men's Basketball NCAA Tournament wins does Nebraska have in the history of the school?

Great point madcityCY.

I would always choose Ames over Nebraska or South Bend or Lawrence. Hence I went to Iowa State over Lawrence and even Autin, TX. Granted I didn't play football for ISU, but education comes first and ISU is the kind of college you want to go if you really care about education before anything.

On a side note: I think Lawrence, KS has one of the most beautiful campus in the nation. I would think people would pick Lawrence over Nebraska but that's not the case.

So its not Ames that doesn't attract good recuit. It's always been the coaches with success and Dan MCarney simply didn't have that.

That coming from a team that had 30 players from the '05 class - touted with lots of 4 and 5 stars - to see a third of them gone by the end of '07.

When NU can keep their players together for 4-5 years then talk about how great of recruits you got, but it ain't going to happen with Billy C wheeling and dealing...

I'd rather have a third gone out of a class of 30 than a class of 18 and having only 9 make major contributions, which is what Nebraska had year in and year out with Solich.

Nebraska needs Solich back as much as Iowa St needs Walden back, both coaches would set their respective programs back 20 years.

What has Callahan done at Nebraska that Solich didn't?

PS. Many thanks to a pair of Huskers for turning a thread about ISU into a Nebraska discussion.

Ames is waiting for the wishbone to come back as the other teams are not practicing against it.

Actually the Boise State offense looked pretty goodd against Oklahoma...

Go back and re-read this thread. NU follower did nothing but list recruiting rankings for fellow Big 12 schools and it didn't take long for Cyclone fans to start in with the bashing and name calling.

I read his post the first time and it was filled with Husker rhetoric and he went out of his way to belittle ISU.

While it certainly doesn't warrant name calling - don't expect things like that to be received with bouquets of flowers here.

FYI -- ISU will finish in the bottom 3 for the third straight year. Good luck next year

Funny that no one has tried to prove NU Follower wrong, all you guys do is start in with insults, name calling, and attacks.

Personally, I think with the nucleus on offense that ISU has returning (namely Meyer & the WR's), maybe some new and fresh ideas from Chizik and his staff is just what the offense needs to get back to 2005 levels and certainly, the defense cann't be any worse than what it was last year. But honestly, no one knows what to expect and the schedule cann't be overlooked.

The point here is that this is a CYCLONE forum

I'm not saying that, but instead of defending your team and arguing the comments made by NU Follower of a bottom 3rd finish in the North, you guys start zinging insults and name calling left and right.
