RECRUITING: Five storylines between now and NSD

For the love of God, does this coaching crew ever sleep? They are blowing me away with at the minimum getting these guys to come here for a look. Facilities, fans, renovated stadium, all have to help.
This sure is fun.

It's a lot more fun to watch this younger, energetic group work (and I say that as an old guy). Seems like there's a strategy in place as well. There also appears to be a synergystic effect of people working together who have each other's backs. Not so sure that was the case 2013-15.

No excuses so far and no whining about how tough it is here. I really, really like that. Still a lot to be proved by these guys, but so far this is a breath of fresh air.

The previous staff couldn't land defensive lineman consistently. This staff seems to have no issue getting commits and visits out of this position group.
You are a little premature on commits.....but I hope you are correct.

Looking at these profiles, ISU is the only school that has offered both. Might be a major plus for the good guys if they really plan on playing together
Earlier today, I noted these schools have offered both kids, according to Rivals: ISU South Florida UCF W. Kentucky. Maybe Rivals isn't up-to-date?

With current unsigned commits and the JUCO's that have already signed, we are currently 5 over the 85 limit. That is assuming Mike Johnson (who was a grey shirt) got put on scholarship and Mitchell Meyers comes back.
Thanks hardcore and Yankee. That's what I was looking for. So looks like "attrition" will be about 10 guys if we get 3-5 more commits.

Most of the scholarships run through the spring semester correct? I don't think ISU has gone to guaranteed 4 year scholarships. Perhaps there will be almost tryouts during spring ball to see who is going to make it and who they are going to push to move along.

One of the brothers wore a Tennessee shirt in his picture with Campbell...doesn't show a lot of respect for the coaches coming in to visit to wear another teams shirt. He seems pretty set on Tennessee.

There will be competition in the spring and some kids may leave when they see the playing time will not be there. But, it is recruiting suicide for a staff to say we are taking your scholarship away. That will NOT HAPPEN.

I remember Piercbacher wearing an Iowa shirt to his Alabama visit. He switched.

You'd be surprised how often players are recruited over and pushed to transfer.

It's a fine line between pushing a player out and them deciding to leave when they don't feel the love. The only thing I will say, if a staff does this allot other schools will use it against them.

Oh sure, like you know anything about this staff:pwink:

I don't doubt it will be portrayed that way. But if not enough guys want to leave, something will have to give. We appear to be headed to a big number over the limit. They'll be able to get away with it this year though. Transition year. Crazy the renewed interest in Cyclone football!!

Never met them, but I did some extensive internet research and I have slept at a Red Roof Inn so I think my knowledge concerning this staff is in a stratosphere unparalleled by most internet posters.

Expect 8-10 players leaving we have not heard about yet...at least.

Fine by me. Clean house.

I'm sure when actual names are known of people no longer on the roster, there will be some people upset. But 8 wins in three years speaks for itself as a big case for making some changes to personnel.

Yeah, outside of maybe 5 or 6 guys, I don't think I would be too upset with anyone leaving. Everyone needs to remember how bad we've been lately. Hardly anyone isn't replaceable. I know that sounds bad, but it's the cold hard truth.

Off the top of my head, I wouldn't want to lose Lazard, Warren, Cotton-Moya, maybe Lanning.... not sure who else? I'm sure there are a few others, but I'd have to think about it.
