RECRUITING: Five storylines between now and NSD

Chris- I've asked before, but how many guys will end up starting the spring with a scholarship commitment for 2016. In other words, how many guys are going to have to leave to get down to 85? I'm not sure of the starting number, but know there are:

1. Some guys who have left (i.e. Burton, Severs, Rohach). Others?
2. Some awarded scholarships (Fett, Jahlas)
3. 21 current commitments with what seems like 5+ more to go?
4. Some guys walking on that may be promised scholarships? (Vincent, Kempt)
5. Transfer-Catalina plus any others?

I may be missing some pieces. Just seemed like we were only going to have spots for about 15 and now we are going after 25-30 new additions. Have you done the math?

Only thing I can guess is that there is more attrition coming, although I haven't heard about anybody else.

The previous staff couldn't land defensive lineman consistently. This staff seems to have no issue getting commits and visits out of this position group.

For the love of God, does this coaching crew ever sleep? They are blowing me away with at the minimum getting these guys to come here for a look. Facilities, fans, renovated stadium, all have to help.
This sure is fun.

Foster is an intriguing recruit. Rated pretty high, but schools that you would expect to recruit him, like Iowa and Wiscy, not even offering. There must be something that Lanning sees that others don't. Strange that Minny would cut him loose. Regardless of offense types, you can't enough quality linemen.

He committed to Minny before Jerry Kill hung it up, and decommitted after. Nothing strange about that.

Was kind of hoping for something more specific than this. Does anyone have an idea of how many people are currently on scholarship? Seems like something that would not be that hard to know. I just don't know where to look. My question is really whether there are going to be a small number of additional guys leaving (say 5 or so) or more like 10-15? Seems to me like we may be more in the 10-15 range?

I'm going to make a wild guess that the "attrition" winds up matching however many recruits they manage to sign--not the other way around.

Looking at the roster (http://www.cyclones.com/SportSelect.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=10700&SPID=4653&SPSID=48388&DB_OEM_ID=10700), I just counted what I think is 71 on scholarship, including Jahlas and Glenn. I'm sure that is not spot-on, but for estimating that leaves 14 open spots to hit the 85 max.

I also included Luna, Webster, Knott, Meyers, Glenn, although due to injuries I'm not sure if they will continue to play? And that's pure speculation. That would get down to 66 scholies.

Also, my number is not counting some other guys who I'm not sure are walk-ons or scholarship: Vincent, Kempt, Ryen, Fett, Walker, Chandler.

So between the above-mentioned injury guys, and a handful of others, we will certainly see some attrition in order to sign 20+ in this class and stay within the 85 max.

Some commits will greyshirt too. This staff will do that more than past staffs have is the word.

With current unsigned commits and the JUCO's that have already signed, we are currently 5 over the 85 limit. That is assuming Mike Johnson (who was a grey shirt) got put on scholarship and Mitchell Meyers comes back.
