Reception in IC..

I've only been in Iowa City once for the game - 2002. I was expecting my car to be egged, keyed, or vandalized in some way, but it never happened. Probably had something to do with parking well away and walking in. Of course we were heckled, but we weren't physically assaulted. That probably had a lot to do with the fact that it was a rather large mixed group of Hawks and Clones - and we were all friends. Tavern Hok bullies won't mess with large mixed groups like that.

I had a great time, but I'd probably never do it again unless I could get into another large mixed group like that again. I don't doubt the stories for a second. I've been in IC for gameday against Michigan, and with what I witnessed that day I'll never doubt a horror story about Tavern Hoks mistreating ISU fans just because they wear "the wrong colors".

google Penn State at Iowa and see the youtube video of Hawk fans pelting Penn St fans with beer cans.

This happens last time I was in Iowa City for the game I got hit in the head with a full beer can as I was walking to my parents tailgate. When I got to my parents tailgate all their friends (who all know I am an ISU fan) proceed to yell obsinities at me for wearing ISU gear.

Sounds like I'm in the minority, but I've never had any serious problems in Iowa City. A few people talked a little smack....some of it maybe a little inappropriate...but not too bad. For the most part I didn't talk back...unless it was to friends.

This sounds about right, where are all these "physical" altercations taking place at anyway (ie. around the stadium, on Melrose walking to the stadium, etc..)? I haven't seen anything like what some of you "claim" happened to you, all I have ever seen or heard is a lot of verbal abuse, but if you just ignore it and keep walking you are fine.

You must have been at the Michigan game in 2003 and at the fieldhouse lot, well that was a mess or more like a freakin war, they use to hang a beer bong down from the top of the parking ramp next to it (5 stories tall), but that lot has since been closed down and I think that Michigan game was what did it in.

I've tailgated in IC for a couple of ISU/Iowa games. It's a lot of fun, but be prepared for some verbal abuse. 99% of it is just for kicks, don't get your panties in a bunch.

Do you really think people would make this up?

That is until you get your car keyed, girl hit with a beer can, having a 300 pound mountain man coming at you and your girl friend, being shoved out of your ticket seat because you are a Cyclone fan . . . DID YOU EVEN READ what was posted above?? Unfreaking believable how passive some of you are!

It was actually the 2005 "Blackout" game. My friends/roomates told me they were going to gang up on me and kick my arse if I wore anything but black to that game, so I went to the store and purchased a black John Deere T-shirt. I was probably the only person in the crowd of 70,000+ fans that actually gave a rip about farmers that day... :jimlad:

you ignoring these "physical" "claims" shows exactly the problem the Iowa City police and council members are trying to root out. People blindly ignoring the problems and denying everything.

Nothing to see here, move along. Nope, no problems here.

It is people like you, ignoring the issues, that disturb me the most.

Look - I don't doubt the stories told in this thread. Not one bit. But some of us just haven't had the same negative experience at the extremes that are being told in this thread.

One shouldn't have to "just ignore it." I wonder why all of YOU great hawksters . . N.E.V.E.R. seem to intervene . . and confront your OWN thugs??? Why??? Are you a coward or silent supporter . . laughing it all off?? Why not intervene?

It's not like everyone in Iowa City is physically assaulting rival fans, but it DOES happen. I haven't seen it against Iowa State fans for 4 years, but last year I went to the Iowa/UNI game. There was a guy that kept threatening to kick my ***, and threatening my girlfriend because we were in UNI gear. I just laughed at him, and told him to come do something. I'm not a real big guy (6'1" 200lbs), but he was quite a bit smaller.

Eventually, some other Hawk fans noticed what an *** clown this guy was being, and called Kinnick security, who kicked him out.

The reality is that it's the minority of Iowa fans who act this way, but there's enough of these d-bags who act this way that I can totally understand and absolutely believe claims of abuse in Iowa City.

i've never had a problem in IC. there are a few idiots, but that is everywhere. It's mainly been fairly joking and fun.

What the heck?!! Threatening my girlfriend??? R U Kidding Me??? Grow some gonads.

reality . . . too many in their "minority" . . way too many.

It all depends on what your wearing, I will never go to and ISU/Iowa game agian, during the Seneca Game I got a cup of **** thrown on me at the game in the stands, 2 years later I got numerous beers thrown on me outside the stadium and inside I had loose change and even a full water bottle tossed at me. I dont care if it is a minority that is doing it, 80 percent of hawk fans I have ment have no class

So your advice then would be to sink down to their "minority's" level and be as bad if not worse than the person in that minority, only to have the rest of Hawkdom not in the minority come in and defend the guy in the minority? Yeah, that seems like a great idea...
