Never been big on TV in general outside of sports, wife loves them though. It keeps her busy while I play video games so I don't mind. I don't think I've ever followed a show on television week to week, I've always just binged whole seasons or watched random episodes.

I do miss the old History channel, now most of that is on H2 which I don't get.

The first season or two of any reality show can be good. It is all somewhat staged but once it get's picked up it becomes 100% staged and produced which I hate. I often wonder how some of these shows are on their 456th season.

The only one I watch is Ink Master and even it has gotten to be less about tattoos and more about fake drama. Not sure why anyone watches stuff like real housewives of blah blah blah or fake hillbillies that will slap their face on anything to make an extra buck.
Seriously, who buys Duck Commander Valentine's candy?

We used to DVR the Voice. I liked listening to some of the different renditions that occurred, but we would just fast forward past everything else to get to the performances. All the rest of the drama is pure garbage to me. I haven't watched it for years and haven't missed it a bit.

If I'm bored late at night I'll watch Treehouse Masters or some cooking show, but mostly for background noise. If it's live, I'll usually just read through a majority of the show and glance up to see the end product.

But any of the "judging" crap that goes along with these shows is beyond horrible.

The ones I will never understand are the Bachelor/Bachelorette/Love In the Jungle...all of the "matchmaking" shows. Who in their right mind thinks you will find a lasting, loving relationship in a competition?????

Confession time, my friends and I will watch baggage. It's a dating show kind of like the dating game hosted by jerry springer where a bachelor/bachelorette will chose from 3 other people based on their baggage (and then the person they select will be able to decide if they also want to go on a date based on the main contestant's baggage. We don't watch them because we want to see them find love, we watch because the people are ridiculous, and it makes you feel so much better about yourself.

Also, my intro to international relations professor always has his students watch survivor because it does a good job illustrating the material so for two semesters I watched survivor (once as a student and once as a TA)

Also, a lot of the one's on the food network, especially chopped, are pretty good.

I can't stand the jerry springer show, but I feel like baggage is less exploitive imo.

I'll amend my original statement because I forgot the wide umbrella that is considered a reality show. The contests and competitions - I don't watch them, but I can understand why people do.

The shows where they simply follow people around on their "day to day activities" (used VERY loosely, as it's obviously scripted) - that's total garbage. Those shows are what makes the blood vessels stick out of my temples.

I make it a point to not accidentally click on these kinds of shows when they show up on my guide screen, for worry that I might contribute to their ratings.

Survivor, Moonshiners, and Dual Survival are pretty much the only reality shows I watch anymore. Used to watch Duck Dynasty but feel that show has become way too scripted and overplayed for my liking lately. Used to watch Pawn Stars too, same thing with that show.

Was so glad when my wife finally stopped watching the Kardashians and Real Housewives shows. Talk aboutt dumb and over the top drama, how those shows have lasted this long is beyond me.

Forgot about the drop in the situation survival shows. I will watch those. Alone, Dual Survival, even Naked and Afraid. I'm over the Bear Grylls one though. The short lived one I really liked was "Dude You're Screwed." Just the concept of the ex military guys being 'kidnapped' by their buddies and dropped in some random place was fun to watch. And how they monitored his moves.

I overall dislike reality shows. I will sometimes turn on the following in the background, though:

- Food network (Chopped, Next Food Star, etc.)
- House Hunters/Property Brothers/etc.
- Say Yes to the Dress

I don't think these overall fit the traditional reality TV show format, but they're definitely not Must-See-TV for me.
