Every metric available says that those night games wouldn't get interest and the schools also get a bit of a say in this. I am sure you might see a couple to test the waters but that will not be a regular occurrence unless the game is in cali.

I honestly don’t understand how they keep this up with a straight face. The problem is the teams playing have zero interest from the east coast. They aren’t going to pay for something people aren’t going to watch. And for that matter, what would stop the Big 10 and Big 12 from targeting that spot if they have west coast schools?
Colorado road trip. Rocky Mountains. High. We get that again with the 4 Corners. Prodigal Son returns. No need now for Colorado State.
The problem with the Pac-10 is they have no ability to supply inventory before the middle of the day on the east coast during their conference season. You can't start a game in Eugene at 11 AM CST in the early window. College gameday is DARK for 1/2 the show when they go West.
The afternoon slot if UBER competitive for eyeballs. 4 PM CT and onward is their only chance to compete for viewers. ABC and ESPN prefer to show the ACC and SEC. Fox is no longer interested.
Their only chance is CBS and NBC for linear Tier 1 options. The Big 12 and Pac 12 are likely to compete here. Favor will go to the Big 12 though with the ability to have early, mid, and late night options.

Idk, im not sure 18 is that different than 16. The ACC teams we can take come time ate better than anyone we can add now
Not every, and it's also a space thing. At 16 that slot still does as good or better than BTN games. If BIG expands further, even more so.
The peak ever game for BTN was last year's NU-Iowa game, and at least one late game last year surpassed that all time high. And that is without the benefits I mentioned.

Yes, Stew, the PAC hiding their best matchups in that late spot to get ratings just above BTN is a real winning plan.
If these emotions delay the death of the PAC another 5 years on a short GOR, it will be horrible leadership by PAC presidents and ADs
What happens when the Pac has to compete for late night eyeballs against USC and Wisconsin? UCLA and Michigan St as two examples. Most of their games become irrelevant outside of when Oregon plays Washington and Utah.

Amen. And the funny part is Stew... What big matchups? Seriously the PAC-12 already didn't have much to provide on that front and you just lost your main bell cow in USC. So Washington v. Oregon or Oregon v. Utah maybe? That's what you got. Oh and that school named Oregon, which is the only other brand you have, is out the door the second they get a chance.
Byu vs a good big 12 team will go toe to toe with anything the 10 leftover pac schools can muster up.
Last season, Baylor vs TCU last year did a 1.0 rating at 2:30 on Fox against ABC (B1G), CBS(SEC), ESPN(SEC), and others

So their sales job to stay together now is that Oregon and UW take everyone's money, and if you're good your games are hidden on at 11pm ET. Now competing with some BIG inventory

I agree that ISU vs BYU outdraws every Pac 10 game except when Oregon, Washington, and Utah play each other.
Any Big 12 game would go toe to toe with anything the PAC could do. Even with USC/UCLA in the mix. People just don’t watch PAC 12 football unless USC is pre-hyped beyond belief or is a current #1. PAC is ******. Either now or very soon, but they are ******.
I don’t know how the same people predicting the demise of the Big 12 like 3 times can’t see that their predictions are all coming true, but it’s happening to the PAC instead of the B12.
Is there potentially an option here for the Big12 to pick up the 4 corners, but then somehow Oregon, Stanford, Washington, Cal (?), align with ND and the best of the ACC to form a conference that could be considered above the Big12? Idk, call it Big Coastal lol. Clemson, Duke, UNC, FSU, UVA join. Scheduling and traveling would be insane, yes. E/o week travel cross country. TV money would be intriguing tho.

Maybe the question I’m trying to ask is, given no hurdles like GoR, if anything is possible, and the known conference realignments remain, is the best of the rest teaming together better than the new Big 12?
In a world with no memory of anything older than like 10 minutes ago ya. Starting a new conference is not just typing up a one pager and e-signing it.
That's the only way I'd see the ACC surviving, and it's a longshot because it would depend on ND going all in on ACC conference membership. But an 'American Coastal Conference' with ND, Clemson, NC, FSU, Miami, UVA, Duke, Oregon, Stanford, Washington, Cal, etc., could be pretty viable. Again, chances are basically zero because ND seems committed to independence and even if they did go with a conference why go with the ACC and give up B1G money.
