Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

I think the popularity of that game was more "interconference' than specifically the teams.
There are many of intrconference BIG games. This one was better than all those and top-10 overall. The matchup mattered.

Big 10 fans and casual viewers will watch top PAC teams/schools in vastly greater numbers when those teams are in the BIG. The valuation bump is significant

Basically, a “top” BIG game is going to do well. Regardless of school. Part of that is the superior promotion, channel, and time slot they now always get, but also because their footprint is huge and causal viewers watch. It’s already a P2 world. Oregon won’t stop that, and likely add value from being a better brand than more than half the conference (as shown by Oregon-OSU being above several top BIG conference games and all other BIG nonconference games)

Taking anyone outside the current P5 structure would be the dumbest thing possible at this juncture. The PAC is going to implode (it's only a matter of time). The Big XII is in a good position right now, but taking G5 teams we passed on last year is the quickest way to drop from the #3 conference to the #4.

Plenty of schools from the PAC can be poached now. The ACC could be very vulnerable once it's GOR is up or broken. The Big XII is in position to benefit from both.
if the PAC implodes then we are likely religating 4 schools to G5 status.

what is wrong with reorganizing the G5 a bit by pulling some better regional/competitive G5 options and shelving some current P5 schools?

plus... i would love ISU to have road games in Las Vegas or San Diego or New Orleans, etc...

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

If the Pac 12 needs UNLV or Tulane to stay alive let them take them. The Pac doesn't need to be dead and buried for certain. Just clearly behind us, and if they take those 2 that's obviously what they'll be

I wouldn't mind SDSU, Memphis, or Boise usually. At this time last year I was fine with the latter 2 for sure. But right now there's better options and we should see if we can get any ACC teams with their GOR situation possibly blowing up first.
i would like them to get to 18 now, while still having the ability to look eastward when the ACC likely folds and add another 6 there to get to 24.

Your last line is when the true nature of any post about some of these G5 schools comes out. Look I would love to get trips to those places but this is the one time it isn’t about us fans (not that the sport is about fans anymore anyway) but wanting a road trip to Las Vegas, San Diego, Fort Collins or New Orleans for us fans is not worth it to what it would do for the conference in perception, media money, etc.

There’s always a portion of the fanbase that would like a slightly more interesting vacation itinerary a couple times a year in exchange for financially crippling our athletic department.

It should not be surprising from the fanbase that didn’t care how embarrassing it looked in front of national TV audiences to have the stadium half full at the second half full because they wanted to drink one more Busch Light on a giant slab of asphalt.

I love the spin of night games being a benefit. The whole complaint was that he Pac12 games were so late that no one was watching and now that is somehow a good thing?

I don't know how this is going to end, but having been through this a few times I can recognize desperation ideas when I see them. If they have these great ideas that are going to generate millions and save the conference, why haven't they already been doing them?

who wants to tell him that 4-6 PAC schools plus BYU in Big 12 can exploit that time slot while also pulling in viewers from the central time zone that otherwise would never stay up for that weak conference, while the 4-6 also get tons of games in CT and ET.
HAHAHA right?! Insert obligatory Animal House Pearl Harbor speech "Forget it he's rolling,."

Think of the G5 schools as the garbage out on the curb. They were put out there some time ago because they are of little use or value. The P5 schools that could fall out like Wassu, Cal, or Oregon State are the trash in you kitchen. You also know they are crappy and worthless, they are just inside the house because the opportunity to take them to the curb hasn't happened yet. When you finally get around to taking out this trash, you don't bring in some of the old curb trash even if you think it is better than what you just took out. It is all trash!

He's kind of correct.

I think the BIG is going to get some added value there, especially if they add two more PAC schools.

Asking central time and eastern time fans to stay up for UCLA-ASU hasn't worked. I foresee a lot of Nebraska and Iowa late games. The midwest will watch that late game if is is BIG trash rather than PAC trash. The west coast doesn't care much either way imo
