Re Al

He is shorter than Purdy. Purdy is damn good for a True Sophomore. Purdy was being dissed already that he won’t make pro because he is too short. I say BS.
People aren't saying he WON'T be a pro. Just predicting that he doesn't fit the prototype. Particularly as a starter. He's going to be the best QB ever at ISU. Good enough for me. A pro career is icing on the cake.

You mean the Old Prototype.

Even carrying a clipboard in the NFL for a few years is a pretty awesome job.

I think they call Chase Daniel 'Check-down Chase'....if it were me I'd be like 'And?'.

You posted “I want the football in Brock Purdy’s hands not the backup QB when we have a must have play.”

You didn’t want the ball in DM’s hands when we needed a play but used Lanning?

Getting Mitchell on the field more doesn’t mean Purdy isn’t the guy, particularly when when it matters. Although we occasionally didn’t put the ball in DM’s hands when it mattered, so potentially we’d get creative with Mitchell in a few instances as well.

If I remember correctly, Lanning came in at QB, not RB. I believe most of the time DM was still on the field, meaning two power backs in the same set. That made it harder to defend. Does replacing Purdy with Mitchell provide similar strain on the defense, particularly the front 7, to defend in short yardage?

Also, the idea of giving plays to Mitchell when it is not a clutch play, but randomly throughout a game when we have a comfortable lead is not good either. QB and RB's get used to how they hand the ball off. WR get used to how the ball arrives from the QB. One bad read or fumble is a clutch play for the other team and too high of a risk. You don't want Purdy to get hurt, have him hand it off or do a quick route pass play to avoid that.

A couple things here first of all at what point have you seen Purdy throw a ball that you were like man his arm strength is bad. He has a great arm and plenty strong for the NFL especially when you look at how accurate. He is one of the most accurate down field passers over the last 2 years with air yards.

Next thing about Mitchell is I like him a lot but he is a great playmaker at QB. In order to get him snaps you have to take out one of the best QBs in ISU history (to this point). The other option would be to take out Milton or jones. Re al is good but he is not a better WR at this point than those 2.

I would be ok with some gadget plays but at this point you need him as the back up QB and to not get hurt. I will never understand people calling for a backup QB after the best performance from a QB is ISU history...and it was in 3 quarters

Purdy is 2nd in the country in passing efficiency. I don't think fans are appreciating how good he's been. I don't want him ever coming out of the game unless its a blowout like yesterday.

I didn't start this post to say Re Al should be in instead of Purdy. Just an FYI. I was saying we should find a position for Re Al. I don't think he ever plays QB with the talent we have coming in at that position. Just my hunch. However, he has that next level athleticisim.

Yeah, Mitchell is obviously a more dynamic runner than Purdy, but Purdy is still a good runner enough that teams have to plan for it, so I don’t know how much a package for Mitchell would really do anything. If it were Kempt back there, it would be a completely different story.

No one said he was the only great athlete.
He’s been reported as one of the best though. We don’t have many with his speed and wiggle that also make the defense defend a run/pass/catch option. You generally can benefit from getting on the field for some snaps one of your top-5 athletes that also happens to makes you more multiple. You can believe otherwise if you wish.

One problem inherent with your assumption that anything was remedied is that it was against a bad defense from the Sun Belt.

Top-5 athlete does not mean top-5 football player. Especially if he changes position.

Way to premature in calling for a position change for Re-Al. Before the 2 new QB recruits for 2020 even set foot on Campus. The recruits are still in high school.

You are taking what I am saying wrong. I am saying right now. I think we need to get him on the field. If the other kids we have recruited are as good as advertised. I don't see him starting quarterback. I think Mitchell is so electric he could get to the league as a Randall Cobb type receiver.

Yeah, I've gotten into it with my good Cyclone friend....i'm trying to tell him when he is that good, the pass becomes like short runs at times (as he thinks the only way to win is grind the clock with RB's).

We are going to take snaps away from a guy who just broke the single game yardage record and scored 6 touchdowns in 3 quarters? Don't see it.

Bingo. Re-Al looked good, but he is completely unproven against decent competition. Brock has, for essentially a full season now, proven himself to be one of the best, most efficient QBs in college football. You just can't do anything that would disrupt Brock's rhythm or take him off the field.

It's a tough situation because you'd love to really see what you have in Re-Al, but in my opinion meaningful snaps for him should only come due to blow out or injury.
