You probably said Monte would never make it in the NBA.

Show me a team that played 2 QB and was actually successful. Maybe you could make an argument for the 2006 Florida team with Leak/Tebow, but they also had 9 players drafted into the NFL that year and multiple others on that team that would be drafted eventually.
Bottom line-Good teams don't use multiple QBs.
He was good, not fantastic. Both are examples of the need to get playmakers on the field.Purdy was fantastic against Iowa. He was pretty good against UNI too.
No one is talking about anything close to even reps.Show me a team that played 2 QB and was actually successful. Not convinced Brock is a pro. At least not a leave early pro. I think he's a 4-year guy who's records will never be broken and then be in the NFL as a back-up.Simple answer? He starts in ‘21 after Brock goes pro.
I agree. But we did pretty good job when we brought in Lanning occasionally with Kempt.

Bottom line, use Mitchell more than on the sideline 99% of the season’s snaps

Obviously nobody’s saying to have Re-al replace Brock but CMC always says he wants to get the best 11 players on the field and I think we saw today he could arguably be one of those 11 in whatever role it might be.
The difference between the Lanning situation and the Mitchell situation is two fold, in my opinion. First, Mitchell is the backup QB, one play away from being the starter. Lanning was never going to be a primary QB again. You don't risk your backup QB by putting him in as a direct snap running back, because lets face it, if he is playing when it's not a blowout or an injury to Brock, he isn't throwing. Secondly, Lanning was 230 lbs. Basically a fullback at that point, he could be the LanRam. Mitchell is 190ish. He is more of a homerun hitter rather than that short yardage back Lanning was. I could see maybe a couple plays for him a game unless Brock is unable to go at some point.
Screw Re Al
He broke my ankle on that last touchdown run.

You’re going with injury risk? You must be surprised they played him in meaningless garbage time then. The difference between the Lanning situation and the Mitchell situation is two fold, in my opinion. Use him were? He's stuck behind a really good QB. We have plenty of good wide receivers and running backs. We also have plenty of good athletes that don't see the field at other positions as well and no one cares. I don't get the infatuation with trying to get Mitchell on the field. It is ok to have a good backup QB that is JUST a backup QB.No one is talking about anything close to even reps.

Which “other” guys are sitting on the bench never playing that are anywhere close to Mitchell? As has been stated by coaches, Mitchell is a better athlete than nearly all of those guys, as well as the WR and running backs you mentioned.Use him were? He's stuck behind a really good QB. Didnt Boise is 2 qbs back in lile 2006 or 7? They did decent.
OU did will with Landry and Bell.
Just saying

But right, although we can risk injury to Mitchell in meaningless time, we should not risk injury in meaningful time (thereby also reducing Purdy’s injury risk). I guess we better play Kolar instead, lol.
Also, you must not recall Lanning was the starting MLB with no one behind him. We couldn’t afford to lose him. Mitchell isn’t anywhere near that valuable as the (maybe) backup QB. But he is a playmaker.
Mitchell is much more valuable coming in and making the defense prepare for a run/pass/catch wildcard than he is as backup QB that only sees garbage time. You do realize you can use Mitchell differently than LanRam?? In fact, hopefully it wouldn’t be in such transparent “package” plays, but replacing Jones as the motion receiver.
I could see using him the way we used Joel Lanning, different playset maybe.

This is an offense that has repeatedly struggled to score and make big plays, even with guys like DM and Butler. Particularly against defenses that know what we run. It’s not complicated- like most playmaking backups, a guy like Mitchell would add value seeing the field at times with Purdy, and perhaps on a small number of plays without Purdy.
We are going to take snaps away from a guy who just broke the single game yardage record and scored 6 touchdowns in 3 quarters? Don't see it.
