Got my wife a new car.

Her new car color: Jade Green
My car's color: Wilderness Green Metallic

Both cars are essentially the same color when you see them side by side.

First comment from her sister: "It's so cute that you both got matching cars!"

Was never my intention, but I got such an amazing deal on her car that I could not pass on it just because of the color.

Seems I read somewhere not long ago that green is currently the #1 favorite vehicle color in the U.S.

Well, I got some not-so-good news today. Went in for a complete physical yesterday, and this morning they drew blood for some tests, including fasting glucose levels. My blood sugar had been creeping higher the last couple years, and I really wasn't doing anything about it. (Such an American thing to not do!) Anyway, my doctor called this afternoon and he told me that I am diabetic. So......I would imagine my life will be changing in some profound ways soon, as I intend to do whatever is necessary to deal with this. Life goes on.......

I'm sorry. That stinks. Type I or Type II?

I'm just going to assume that this is her new car.

Type 2, of course. Most Type 1 cases are genetic, and begin in childhood or teen years. Type 2 cases are overwhelmingly owing to lifestyle - basically too much sugary, fatty foods and not enough exercise.

So less sugar, less fatty **** and more exercise doesn't sound like the end of the world. One of my ISU buddies got back into acceptable ranges by changing diet and dropping beer to an occasional beverage and not part of his regular diet. Dude still does not exercise, though.

Sugars a bear to cut even if you don't have an addiction to treats. Sugar is in EVERYTHING. About the only cereal I find without sugar is shredded wheat and Cheerios (just 1 gram/cup). Same thing with peanut butter, have gone with Smuckers Natural, just peanuts and some salt.

Yep, I eat Cheerios and use Stevia to sweeten it. (I do have a fairly active sweet tooth.) But I guess I'll just have to buckle down and say no.

The older we get, the more our bodies crap out. Getting old sucks, but OTOH, it's far far better than the alternative!

Currently working on changing diet & lifestyle myself. It ain't easy! Quite honestly, not sure why I'm not type 2 given my circumference and sedentary lifestyle.

Misread at first that you got your car and new wife. Was excited for you, then I reread it, not as excited now.

Sugar rant continued:

And WTF Raisin Bran, you have to encrust the raisins in sugar? Without sugar raisins are already sweet and have like 17 grams of sugar per ounce BEFORE you add MORE sugar to them!!!. And, no, I don't buy Raisin Bran stuff anymore.

And, for the record, my favorite dry red wines are low in sugar. ;)

I should probably reduce my banana intake. Not an easy cut for me, I love me some bananas in the morning.

/end rant

maybe

Try this. It is supposed to have a third less sugar as Kellogg's:

shopping

As a kid I used to dump a whole bunch of sugar on my breakfast cereal. Now I can't even stand many of the cereals that have a bunch of sugar in them even without augmenting. I don't know how I ate like that.

Grapes are the candy of the fruit world. Raisins are the fun dip of dried fruits.
