Location, pay, bennies, long-term goals, advancement potential...lots of things to compare. But one thing a lot of people have discovered: if you don't like the job or the people you work with, better compensation may not be worth it. :)

Yeah, I'll get a better picture after I learn about the official offer. And I know I like working at my current employer, plus the compensation there will be on par. I just don't want to be stuck turning down a current offer because the process at my current employer is taking longer, and then not end up getting the offer (even though others I work with think I'll get it).

I have surgery schedule for Friday to remove all four of my wisdom teeth. I'm not looking forward to that. At least they are going to put me under for the procedure.

Good news today - I'm waiting on a call back from a potential employer who left a voicemail this morning about offering me a job. However, I have two other employers that are very likely to extend offers in the near future. I think I'll hear back from the 2nd company by Friday, but the 3rd company is where I'm currently interning at and the interview won't be until next week.

Anyone ever juggle multiple job offers? I think I'd like working at the 1st company but right now my first choice is the 3rd company where I'm a current intern and have been told I'm likely a leading candidate for the full-time opening. The 2nd company would be a great company to work for but would require me to work in the middle of Dallas - Fort Worth. I'm not sure I'm ready to move to the big city.

I just want to be open and honest with everyone and make sure I have enough time to fully consider my choice without burning any bridges... or declining a job offer and then not receiving others.
Good luck on those wisdom teeth.

Good luck with the wisdom teeth. Be prepared for unsolicited horror stories. I had all of mine removed many moons ago and had no issues.

As far as multiple job offers, I'll echo what I told to BU when he asked the same question about internships. Stall if you can, but if you need to make a decision, I wouldn't fret about later backing out of a job in favor of a better one. Any recruiter worth their merit knows that potential employees aren't solely interviewing at their company just like they aren't just interviewing one candidate.

Don't mistake a company for being your friend. You can be loyal and hardworking, but remember that companies make unpopular decisions to save money...all....the....time. Watching out for yourself is prudent, and you can do it without burning bridges by just using a little tact.

Thanks, I'm hoping everything goes smoothly and it's a quick recovery.

I understand needing to look out for yourself. I don't want to be "that guy," though, that accepts an offer only to decline it before starting work. I get that it happens but it would have to be an extraordinary situation for me to do something like that (I think).

I'll just tell him I'd like to take some time to review the offer and think things through so I can make the best decision possible. I'm hoping I can wait until the middle of next week before I have to give a firm answer.

@cstrunk, good luck on the wisdom teeth. Isn't that bad, just keep the holes clean. Three of my kids have had them out relatively recently, was surprised they gave them Vicodin.
If you are worried about timing, don't think it could hurt to tell the one you are waiting on about your other offer to try and get some idea when they will be making a decision if you don't already know that.

TIL, my first and last names are ~ 25 miles apart. In iowa that is. Didn't know I had one town named after my family and the other after me. I feel special. Need to look to see if my middle name is out there in Iowa. (Its my dad's name so I wouldn't be able to take credit for it)

It must be Brad Pitt's birthday or something...

Troy, World War Z, Mr. & Mrs. Smith and Ocean's Eleven are all on right now (on different channels).

How the hell did it get to be 7:40 already? Who stole my time and where did they put it?

BTW, it's snowing a little. Pants will be digging that I am sure. o_O

Louis CK is one of the funniest comedians out there. Didn't see the SNL monologue, which are usually lame anyway, but my first statement is an undeniable fact.

I like a variety of standup comedy and given several bits of his stuff a listen. Count me as a member of the minority who don't find his stuff that all that good.

Leath's office just sent out a campus-wide email reminding us about the "Code of Business and Fiduciary Conduct" regulations under which ISU, UI & UNI operate.

Bizarre, considering his occasionally casual relationship with all of that...

Isn't the UNI dude in charge now?
