We're now in the market for good luggage. As in well-made, sturdy, dependable, and lighter-weight. When packing for grandkid trips we almost always need a checked bag for things that won't come home with us.
Suggestions on luggage brands?
Not sure what brand but our most recent luggage purchase was from Costco. It hasn't been used much but it seems good ant the price was good.

My kids make fun of our carry ons. We have 5 people and 5 colors. That way no one complains about a bag being heavier. Plus, the bright colored ones stick out and you find them quickly

People who select black luggage are masochists. You gotta do something that sticks out.
Mine is black but it has a giant picture of Darth Vader on it, my sons looks like r2-d2, my daughters is red and mickey themed and my wife has a minnie one that has a lot of bright pink. All but my wife's are carry on size and they are easy to spot.

That's one way of doing it too. Make it stand out.

Ours our brown or something like that (I will look this weekend when I pack again) but I also use a luggage tag from my time with the football team. I figure no one else is going to have an Iowa State Football luggage tag.

So freakin tired of people that bring a carry on, a huge backpack, and like 2-3 bags on their arms when getting on a plane. They take forever to get on the plane take up a ton of bin space. Laughed at a couple that did this on my flight back last night from Dallas. They got to DSM and we’re walking out and the guy goes “I forgot a bag”, his wife goes, “we aren’t going back to get it!” I wanted to tell him, “that’s what you get!” People are to freaking cheap to put $30 down to check their luggage. With the apps anymore you can track it. I just can’t get over how airlines don’t enforce the one carry one rule anymore.
When Mrs. Velo and I were coming back from our honeymoon in Hawai'i many moons ago our boarding passes showed separate seats so we asked the ticket agent to see if we could get reseated together. They told us to hold off on boarding. They managed to get us adjoining seats but we were nearly the last to board. We got on board to find the overhead bins entirely full while all the people who came to the airport with a full size carry on, oversized personal bags (purse, backpack, etc.) and his and hers boxes of pineapples sat with nothing under the seat in front of them. Meanwhile we had both of our carry ons stuffed where our feet should go for about an eight hour flight. I was pissed and my legs cramped up on the flight.

I never understood why they were strict about how many carryons you could have at the time but the boxes that each had 3 full sized pineapples in them that people ordered and were delivered to them at the gate got a free pass. That **** still takes up space - for a full day flight!

Like those pineapples are any different than the ones that are shipped to your store back on the mainland. Well I take that back they were about twice as expensive.

Our bags are a hodge podge of makes and colors. Mostly shades of gray and black. We buy several brightly colored rolls of grosgrain ribbon and make multicolored curly tassels that we attach to the handle of each bag and carry-on. If you have porters, it helps them to keep your bags together. We also have brightly colored cinch straps for the checked bags; makes the easier to spot from a distance.
