Quiz-Which American accent do you have?

I scored Neutral as well...but I pronounce Bag like Vague.

But...how should they be pronounced. I pronounce Bag with a long 'A' (not the short a) and i pronounce Vague almost the exact same way...is that bad?

I think Bag with a short 'a' would sound like someone from Minnesota or Canada.

Also...Stalk should rhyme with Walk in my opinion!

Bag should sound like hag (old woman). Vague should sound like Hague (city in the Netherlands)

I'm a northerner, but I always knew that. We won the war!

yo dat quiz iz racist and ****. da only option is whitey. y'all is mad stupid.

In the dictionary, Hague is stated to be pronounced In English,d as rhyming with plague.

To me, Bag, Hag, Vague, and Plague all rhyme. Is this not correct?

Western. Grew up in Nebraska, lived as far east as Chicago but now in Colorado. Sounds about right.

I think a huge regional question would be how you say "coyote". I grew up thinking that people who said "cuy-oh-tee" were from the city. "Cuy-yote" is how I grew up saying it. I'm sure there's a regional separation somewhere, just like pop/soda/Coke.

not technically, no.

I don't know if correct is the right word, but it's not how most people pronounce bag. Bag should sound like bat, bad, battle, etc. Vague should sound like maid, grade, laid, etc.

Most people I know pronounce the word 'Bag' with a hard a, not a soft a like bat. I just went around to my co-workers to see how the pronounced the word (I wrote it down and made them read it) and they all said Bag with a hard a just like me.

I work in downtown Des Moines, but I find this discussion fascinating!! To me Bag pronounced with a soft a like 'Bat' would be something people from Illinois would say. (Chicago accent)

So, when you take home leftovers from a restaurant, you ask for a "Doggy Bay-g?"

And if someone is wearing a loose pair of pants, they are considered "Bay-ggie?"

So is a rag pronounced ray-g? Says the Illinois guy, bag is pronounced like bat.

Well, I don't want to say you're wrong, but...

but I don't know any other way to finish that sentence.

Northern. I'm from Chicago, so it makes sense.

I'm also from Chicago, but I got Neutral.

They need to ask how you pronounce Chicago. My wife says it is a give-away if you say "Sh-cah-go" with the accent on the "cah."

I got neutral. I also say get as git. My favorite is hearing people here in eastern Iowa say the Walmarts or John Deeres and say Washington and washer like Warshington and warsher. There should be an accent such as "the hicks" for those type of people.
The warsher thing drives me crazy too, although most of the people I hear say it that way are older farmers rather than hicks. Hicks just talk like they're from Missourah.
