I only bring that up because then does any fault fall on Mac....We can't put blame on a coach not arriving soon enough, or leaving too early. Mac has been on HB for 2 1/2 years. Has built up a very highly anticipated program - yet still can't pull him in. I'm not casting blame, but with the trend being shown here you only have to wonder?
Maybe HB is the exception, but it goes back to my original question. If a successful, competitive team is what the players desire, why bypass a team that's near the breaking point of that type of thing? Maybe answers beyond any of our knowledge and analysis.
Major college sports has become a HUGE business. Players want/need to market themselves properly for not only making it to the next level, but being able to cash in on endorsements. You can do that by going to Duke, UNC, KU, etc......because ESPN is going to hype the hell out of you. You will be on national t.v. nearly every game. You will be on all of their highlights and game promos. Iowa State just can not compete with that. I find myself getting a little disenchanted with college sports. It is all about money --- and the rich just continue getting richer.
