DM is gone, and you need to get over it. I actually find it refreshing to have a coach that will tell it like it is and take responsibility, instead of someone telling me how awesome the competition was and how bad things were when he got here.
A bunch of red flags should have been thrown up during the 2002-2003 collapse. Actually, a number of people did raise questions, but they were pretty much shouted down and ridiculed by the DM fanatics. Something went terribly wrong during the second half of 2002-2003. That something was never corrected, and it affected every season following. Fortunately, we now have ADJP, and he won't let such things go on with out correction.
