I love both bands, however went with Aerosmith.

I think Queen had higher talent and Freddie is iconic as a lead singer. Queen has a handful of top songs I'd place above Aerosmith.

However I went with Aerosmith after you get behind Queen's top 3-5 songs, where then Aerosmith dominates. They have a stronger bandwidth of songs in that area.

Only really like a couple songs from each but would probably rate the Queen songs a bit higher.

Aerosmith after Pump is pretty horrific, bad enough for SNL to spoof the sound of their music as it was released. I think I saw somebody in another thread rank “Crazy” above “Dream On”.

Maybe Queen would have gotten that bad too if not for the early death of Mercury. Maybe the Stones got that bad but their bad songs just didn’t chart in the top ten constantly like Aerosmith’s aging rocker era did.
I think you make a good point. Aerosmith tailed off big time to where they almost became a caricature. Bon Jovi did the same. Maybe Queen would have too, we'll never know, but I have a feeling with how innovative and groundbreaking they were, they would have adapted better.

Aerosmith's absolute best is a little better than Queen's absolute best.

Aerosmith made some ******* objectively terrible music though.

I think Queen wins for full body of work.
That's where I'm at. I've never heard a Queen song I didn't like. Aerosmith has a couple songs I think are better than anything Queen did but they've also got a few turds. Plus you add in the soundtrack for Flash Gordon and it's Queen by a mile.

I think this is it. Early stuff was pretty comparable. Aerosmith completely sold out and went the pop rock route putting out some serious trash. Queen may have done the same thing eventually, but Freddy's passing left them with only the good stuff in the catalog.

Bum bum bum bum FLASH... AH-UH!

******* awesome.

What’s the context?

Better lead singer = Queen
Better overall band = Aerosmith
Better catalogue = Aerosmith
Better top level songs = Queen
Best individual talent = Queen (Mercury)

I’m giving the edge to Aerosmith because they are an ensemble of talent and the catalogue is deeper. Queen was essentially Freddie Mercury. Both bands are iconic and there is no right or wrong answer however.

Someone mark this down. We may never see anything from Flash Gordon as an argument again.

Queen isn't my favorite band, but they are musically gifted, incredibly innovative, and talented. Their music is "weirder" and harder to appreciate because of that creativity. It's unique.

Aerosmith is a poor mans AC/DC. Just a bunch of bland rock anthems at their best.

Queen is a meal you get at Gordon Ramsey's that you aren't 100% sure what it is when you order it, you aren't sure if you are pronouncing it right, but its the best thing you ever ate.

Aerosmith is Kraft Macaroni & Cheese.

I mean Brian May is the best individual musical talent out of the two bands and it’s probably not that close.

I read that and my jaw dropped.

He's one of the greatest guitarists and songwriters of all-time.

Mercury was great sure but not enough to carry a band on his own.

May is who made them who they are.

Look, I love Princess Aura too, but maybe pump the brakes a little.

In another world, with no Brian May in it, Freddie Mercury may have peaked at karaoke night down at the pub.

A lot of people can sing
Quite a few less than that can play guitar
Then way way way less can write full songs and bring them to life in a pleasurable way.
