I had to get back into the action!

i incorporated your ideas here and then added a few small tweaks of my own. i added a bit of cardinal into the pants for something new. i was having trouble making cardinal colored cleats to look right, so i stuck with just white cleats and socks for now till i figure it out. thoughts?

Dear God PLEASE. These would be so sweet

What are the odds that this is worn the Iowa game? If both schools agree and the NCAA also agrees, the two schools can both wear colored jerseys. It does seem really coincidental that the Hawks' throwbacks are from basically the same year that the ones that we have been making are from. The one thing that would keep it from happening would be that it is in Iowa City. Maybe the week before....

I would have to do some digging, but it would be neat if there was some sort of significant date surrounding Jack Trice (anniversary of the game he was injured, etc) that could be an avenue for these. A great opportunity for the university to retell the story, have a week long type of program/celebration (guest speakers, etc) with the game/halftime ceremony type of deal. You know it would really pick up steam with the media outlets and it would be for a good cause. I don't know who to sell the idea to (Jeff Johnson in Alumni, Dr. Tom Hill, Pollard,Rhoads, etc), but I think it could be a cool opportunity.

I know that if it were a cost, that could be deferred by the selling of the jersey's and helmets (you could even do a "pledge" program to pay them off totally before committing to it, etc).

I know a guy who was part of the "movement" to bring Trice's story to the modern era Jack Trice - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia(look at the legacy section) it may be worth getting those guys aware of the concepts being floated. And after reading it looks like that game was 89 years ago...not a super magicial milestone number.

Oct. 6 (game) and Oct. 8 (death) are the two dates.

The next times (after 2012) that either of those fall on a Saturday:
Oct. 6 - 2018 (95 years), 2029 (106 years)
Oct. 8 - 2016 (93 years), 2022 (99 years)

In 2023 (100 years), Oct. 7 will be on a Saturday -- which would be just about the right fit.

Other anniversaries:
1984 (2014) - Name changed to Cyclone Stadium/Jack Trice Field
1997 (2017) - Name changed to Jack Trice Stadium

We should do Spanish uniforms first game of the year that say "Los Cyclones" like the NBA does.. that'd be SIIIIICK

Threw together a mock-up. Hey guy w/ the connection to the equipment team, pass this design along to the team.. and let their minds be blown.

That'd be cool. Hope if the Trice getup finds its way to reality, we could see this for that game. Makes sense, and coincidental as you said.

Is the colored-jersey thing dependent only on NCAA and teams' approval? (Which sounds right -- U-M/Notre Dame throwbacks were both non-white, correct?)

Also: I saw Twitter link earlier about the Iowa throwbacks, but I couldn't find samples of Hawkeye plans -- wondered where I could see it.

Thanks for doing the legwork.

Two responses after this suggest first home game each season. I'm actually more in favor of less frequency on these, otherwise it might lose a little impact.

Based on your list, I might do it every three years:
2014: 30th anniversary of JTF
2017: JTS 30th
2020: (Could come up with an "excuse")
2023: 100th anniversary

If these were accepted as an alternate soon enough, I'd like to see it in even in 2012 — nearby post suggests doing it w/ Iowa throwbacks in this season's rivalry game. Now that I think about it, having an unveiling anywhere but at JTS would seem silly.

FWIW, I was talking to an employee of athletics, specifically in the equipment side of things and they confirmed that the Jack Trice designs had been shown around and were well received....doesn't mean anything will happen, but cool that they think it's cool. I think a lot of it would come down to $$$ and who paid (Nike, us, etc).

On a side note, that does make me wonder, how the Nike contract works. Meaning, do we get things at cost, free, etc. I would imagine to outfit each player with pads, helmet, other gear is hundreds of dollars.
That in and of itself is very encouraging that the athletic dept and equipment guys know about these. I would certainly buy a game jersey or even some sort of shirt/work out shirt with that design on it.

NBA teams that do the Spanish unis are usually in cities that have a giant Spanish speaking population. Ames, if anything, should have theirs be in an Asian language.

That is the obvious conclusion one would come to. :jimlad:

Listen - I don't love them either, but all I'm saying is that Pancheros burrito I just ate really hit the spot on this fine 4/20 evening. I don't think these little blessings their culture has provided us should go unrecognized.
