Prediction: ISU @ OU

How the mighty have fallen.

So much for that title run in 12, huh?

That said, Oklahoma 45 Iowa State 14. Everything fell our way during the OSU game. I expect the football gods to even that out over this week.

I think you're right, though I hope not. I expect a letdown after the last game plus OU hasn't lost 2 straight in a long time.

We're either going to win or it's going to be a Utah-esque letdown game. I don't see any in-between. That being said, if we lose I think we'll show up at K-State and go 7-5.

I think the defense has been pretty salty most of the season, and I don't see any reason why it won't be Saturday. That said, after OU's loss to Baylor, and being the game's in Norman, I'm picking ISU to cover but come up short. OU 28 - ISU 14. But with CPR, I would not be surprised with a W.

I still have the Big Peach from that game in 1990. We had a huge console radio in our kitchen on the farm that I remember laying on the floor listening to the game and Pete Taylor was going nuts (along with my dad). I didn't understand the enormity of the situation at the time but am watching the game with dad again Saturday and hope to relive the memory.

I don't see how it'll be a letdown. OU is a very good team.

OU is a poor running team, and a very good passing team. We have a very good pass D and an okay run D(when we aren't focusing on the pass: Baylor, MU). So our strengths match up on D. On O their D is somewhat weak against the pass, especially deep, and good against the run. ISU isn't very good at passing, especially the deep pass, and we're pretty good at running, or just having Barnett scramble for first downs. So our weaknesses match up.

Our D is very good at slowing the other team down. Baylor and OSU score in a 1 minute drive about every game, against us we forced them to dink and dunk their way down the field. OU is like those teams in that they are at their best scoring fast. I think we can slow them down, but we're going to have trouble scoring. I think it'll be close until the second half, when OU gets urgent and puts us away. 31-10 OU.

Turning point will be if we can force them into mistakes when they do get urgent.

Have any of you guys watched Oklahoma's defense all year? How the hell do you some of you only spot ISU 10 points? I think we put up 28 points, depends on how good our defense decides to play.

We need to "survive" the first 10 minuets much like we did vs. OSU. Do that and OU will start doubting and we will make a game of it.

We can't throw. And OU's D has been very good outside of Baylor and Texas Tech, and guess what those teams do to score. Throw.

I think we are seeing things significantly stronger on the defensive side of the ball than last year. OU will look to gain strong momentum from the get-go and put the Clones back on their heels. If the defense can stand strong and play competitively during the first ten minutes of play, I think it can be a competitive game.

Our team specific coaching is getting better and better, as the results of the bye week and OSU indicated. There is plenty of film on OU this year and their lineup is somewhat inhibited and changed by injuries. I am confident that we will see some weakness exploitation by the Cyclones and it will not be merely a survival matchup.

The wildcard will be if our defense can be as successful in turnovers against the Sooners as they were against their in-state brethren. If Jake, AJ and the boys can succeed in tormenting the passing lanes and puttin some fear in the life of Landry Jones, then anything is possible.

Keeping OU out of the 40's in regulation seems necessary. They will be playing us missing their primary passing target, Broyles and one of their primary weapons on the defense, Ronnell Lewis. (And I think Lewis is the bigger loss to the Sooners.)

After seeing Woody's success in the OSU game, I would also expect OU to be preparing to key on Woody to prevent the run, so I would look for an alternate ISU offensive outlet to step up and exploit the OU focus on Woody.

I also expect the Darius's to be key in under coverage routes.

OU: 30
ISU: 24 (but could be higher and the score inverted with defensive turnovers)

I'm not really sure what to think about this game. My head says loss, but my heart says we have a puncher's chance in Norman this year. OU is not accustomed to losing. They watched their NC hopes flushed down the toilet last week. They are hurting with lots of injuries. And the biggest factor in my mind is that we are (to borrow a CPR term) "plateauing."

My completly uneducated, irrational, emotional prediction is ISU 41 - OU 21. My gut just tells me this could be another "turning the corner moment."

I think we've become the ultimate "puncher's chance" team. Did anyone else feel during the OSU game that, unlike Nebraska and Texas, this was less a fluke upset and more something that Iowa State just does now? I think it's less potential now and more us having officially arrived as the Big 12's biggest pain in the ***.

I am proud to be that pain.

Nice role for a building program. Makes us seem dangerous, because we are.

Our offense is better with Barnett at the helm vs. Jantz, but they still make too many mistakes to be as effective as they could be. Moved the ball at will against KU, but only put up 13 points. Moved up and down the field against a mediocre oSu defense, were given a couple of gifts by the oSu offense, but still found a way to shoot ourselves in the foot multiple times (pick 6, missed FG, fumble inside the 10, bad penalties, dropped passes, etc.).

I just don't think our offense is consistent enough to put up enough points to win a game like this (of course I said the same thing before the oSu game). I"ll go with:

OU - 38
ISU - 24

ISU 34 OU 30. Then we go to KC and kick old man river square in the *** back to Manhattan, roll into a January bowl at 8-4, and show the world who we are by trouncing a blue blood program like Michigan, Nebby, or Notre Dame on national tv.

OU's best dlineman is out and sounds like Travis Lewis banged up. I think we will have a good running day. Our oline has become very quietly one of the better units in the Big 12.
