Potential Transfers '14

Didn't Iowa recruit a kid that spent two years in prison?
Building it the right way = Hubbard, 25, was charged with four felonies as a teenager in connection with
burglarizing a house, robbing and beating a man on Dec. 13, 2003. Hubbard turned
himself in three days later and within four months he pleaded guilty to robbery.
He spent 3 years, 11 months in prison

Thoughts?

@LukeMeredithAP: College hoops news. NCAA might pass a new rule next week forcing hardship transfers to sit a yr, then have 1 added to eligibility clock.

That is probably the most fair way to do it. If someone transfers to be closer to a sick family member they should focus that year on helping that person get better and not have worry about basketball at that time.
It also would remove the NCAA arbitrary decision making on these cases. It is really hard for a person to decide what sickness or how close the school is to the family member to validate granting the waiver or not.

I wonder if ISU has had any contact with Devonta Pollard?

If they could get Anderson and then a big guy graduate transfer that would be perfect

I like that hardship rule. However i think the graduate transfer should be rewarded with immediate eligibilty.

This may sound crazy, but I don't think ISU really needs anyone else added to the team this year. The guys that they are looking at right now are not much better than the ones they would be replacing, the ones they are replacing are younger with more potential. Everyone knows that CFH probably isn't going to play over 8-9 deep regardless of who comes in. I also think that players like Matt Thomas and Naz Long have the potential to be great players at ISU, but they need floor time to do that. People give Matt Thomas a hard time, but he made the second most 3 pt baskets for a freshman in ISU history.

Do you want to bank that scholarship or use it on a long term transfer? Because those are the options other than an immediate guy.

We've had 2 guys transfer in the last 4 months, 1 guy not allowed to play because of der Fuhrer, 1 guy injured that cost us a final 4 due to lack of depth, and 1 guy suspended indefinitely with a DUI. We also had a PG from USC who did not qualify. Banking is a last resort. Maybe Thomas will accept a redshirt - he could have used one last year, if we had the depth. A transfer sitting out a year and learning our system isn't a bad thing either.

No. You are living in a fantasy world if you think that is a non zero possibility. This is not a videogame.

Would be a great move in a videogame though.

This we don't need anyone talk is so silly. You take the best available. Even if some guys don't see the floor, it maximizes the talent on the scout team that prepares the starters for games. Do you think KU and UK pass on great players because they already have 8 solid players? It's like some fans want us to be like Iowa. You recruit to win, it's the players responsibility to earn playing time. This is big boy basketball.

If Fred even asks him to do this you might as well count on him transferring away. No one currently on the team is going to redshirt and be happy about it. The only person I see redshirting in Custer if we got another transfer guard.

Well you don't take the best available, you take the best available for what you need.

Two players transferred who didn't play. That doesn't hurt.
Nader will play
Thomas doesn't need a redshirt year.

Goodness, can the redshirt talk please stop?

Players at major D1 programs do not redshirt. If you are recruiting players that need a redshirt year to develop, then you are recruiting the wrong players.

I probably shouldn't say this, but I'd bet that no player will ever redshirt under CFH again. Unless there is an exceptional circumstance, CFH will never redshirt a high school recruit again. Ever.

Signed Farnold Degand and SDW

First of all, what the hell is a Farnold Degand?

And 2nd of all, SDW is obviously a raw player that FH took before ISU had much success. The poster is saying going forward we won't be redshirting anyone. I tend to agree. I'd say it happens maybe once every 4 or 5 years.

EDIT: I think he is agreeing with DSMCy, not disagreeing. That makes more sense.
