Potential Transfers '14

From the videos of Nader I've seen, I'd say he's closer to Clyburn type of skill set, AN is more physically built than Will though so I'd expect him to post more often. Really looking forward to see CFH plans for him.

After seeing him in the cap city league, that's the way I described him, a thicker version of Will. He can slash, handle the ball, and has a nice touch from mid-range out. His size would let him post up smaller players, but he's more of a perimeter guy. Physically he's got a great body and looks a lot like a bigger version of Naz on the court.

He's a terrible finisher. I cringed when he tried to go to the hoop. I don't know how you can possibly think he's a good finisher.
I am not sure he drove enough to provoke such a reaction. I wanted to see him attempt to drive more to see what he can do. Plus, he shot 56% on his 39 2-point attempts, which is not bad.

I'm expecting Naz to have a much more complete skill set next season, including driving and finishing in the lane.

If Scotty and Babb are any indication, he should have this capability soon. I'm not sure how many times Babb drove in to the basket his junior year but I'd put the over/under around 2.

Naz has no problems getting to the rim though, he just hasn't finished as consistently as he would like.

@TravisHines21: That's a big name. RT @jeffborzello: BYU guard Matt Carlino is planning to transfer elsewhere for his final season. Eligible immediately.

My guess is Iowa lands Carlino. Being a former BYU player, it means he likely won't sleep with anyone, much less any of his teammates girls.

Maybe that's why he's leaving. He's probably going to be hammered drunk and partying this entire year.

Seriously though, I do wonder why he would want to leave BYU. They return everybody from an NCAA tourney team, and should be pretty darn good unless Mika is going on a mission.

EDIT: Oh, he is leaving for a mission. And who knows, maybe Carlino wants to go somewhere with a certain grad program.

I seem to remember seeing a game later in the year where he was coming off the bench and I thought it was odd.

That kid was an assassin. Would be great in Fred's system.

Hate to break it to everyone in love with Carilino, but he has only shot 33% from 3 point land for three straight years. Not horrible, but not some sharp shooting assassin everyone is talking like.

By comparison ISU had Ejim, Kane, Hogue, Long, Morris, and Thomas that all shot better than that this year. And as cold as Niang was for the better part of the year, he was right around 33% also.

We can do better if we are just looking for a sharp shooter, heck we already have better.

Only shot 38.5% from the field. I understand all the Mormon's look the same (is that racist?) but Collinsworth and Haws were the sharp shooters.

DeAndre Kane improved from 24.8% his junior year to 39.8% his senior year from behind the arc. Not the same thing, but you never know, Fred could identify a flaw in his mechanics or something.

I liked Carlino as a player and wouldn't argue if Fred may want to take on a experienced 2 guard who has produced. Thing is, in my opinion, his skill set is quite similar to Matt, Naz, and I am not sure if Fred would want to risk their development for a slight improvement at the position. A slasher, such as B D-J, would be a player a skill set next years roster doesn't currently have and would add to the wrinkles Fred's offense.
That is unless, it clicks for SDW and/or MattyIce by next fall, which I haven't ruled out.

That's what I was getting at. He could very easily improve his percentage under Fred, but I don't think he could improve enough to overtake Naz a 40% shooter. If he had a different skill set, sure, but he is purely a shooter, and we have a couple that will be just as good IMO.

In the end, I trust Fred, but I doubt this is a guy we pursue. If I'm wrong, I'll welcome him, but it'd surprise me if we were interested.
