Possible Bad News

Im not sure if anyone has seen this, but on Duke's boards they are talking like Harrison is pretty close to commiting now...

Devils Illustrated - Message Boards

God, I hate Duke. I hate the over exposed Coach K. I hate them with the fire of a thousand suns. I can honestly say that if I was a prospect the idea of going to Duke would annoy me. Now, I might not go to the home town team, but if I was Barnes I would be much more interest in Kansas or North Carolina or Florida than I would be in Duke.

Frankly, I lose all interest in Barnes if he goes any where other than Iowa State. Obviously, losing all interest from me will keep him up at night. But I'm not going to go out of my way wishing him well or anything.

But if he is that close to committing and not really waiting until the summer, than I wish he would just get it over with already.

And it's kind of embarassing that Duke can get a cheer going for him (and frankly they have so many good players that Harrison isn't going to make or break them), but our students (and other fans) can only manage one wimpy cheer this year. He's been at a lot of games over the last few years and we act like we don't care.

However, I never could understand why these 5 star kids go to Duke to be just another face rather than going to a school where they will be a legend.

Sometimes I question that too. Does the being on tv as much as Duke, NBA scouts in attendance more, more press have a bigger impact than if he were a big fish in a small pond (ISU) and be a legend?
Then I think, yes it does. He might be chasing a national title, and Duke's chances are better than ISU. He might also be chasing a tremendous education, and he'll get that at Duke as well. Maybe he won't get the pressure at Duke as he would as ISU of being the next savior.
There is a lot of possibles, but I could never blame a guy for going to a better program if he has that shot. Unless its LaFrentz...

I call complete bs. He wont committ anywhere for at least a month or two. Just because he went to a game doesnt mean its a done deal. I talked to a couple of my friends today on his team and no one is putting too much stock into it yet. Yes he likes Duke but he is no where close to a committ

Ding, ding, ding, we have a winner.

Pretty sure our student section has done plenty to let Harrison know they want him.

I understand the sentiment, but in reality it is limited thinking. As fans we always say things like this but in all honesty if you are really good you are never just a face in the crowd. On the outside chance you are just "ok" there is no saying you'd be any better off at "insert your favorite university here".

Fans are fickle and every environment and fabric in time is different. I don’t mention to be cute or even trite but just to say I understand but we never really know. If he bombs at Duke he likely wouldn't be booed or pooh-poohed, they‘d just roll the next guy in. At home..........well you know how things can be.

I'll cheer for him almost anywhere he goes (not KU or UofI).

However, if he goes to Duke or UNC, I'll cheer for him to get lots of points, but will hope he loses games--can't stand those teams.

I am sure a student section cheer is what top prospects think about when they are deciding where to play. What if SDSU had a good cheer for him? Would he want to go there?

It's easier to just assume he's not coming to State. It obviously would awesome to have him here, but there is no point to get overly excited about it. It is what it is.

Again, it is not a huge deal, but the papers in North Carolina saw fit to add it to their stories about the game. And we don't do anything. That's fine, but we'll all ***** when he signs somewhere other than Iowa State.

Not typically. ESPECIALLY when the coach on the other part of the sideline is trying to get you to visit his school that is 10 miles away.

I didn't know we played Duke, did I miss something?

People are overreacting about a message board post? Shocking. Take the glasses off for a second and realize Duke is doing the same thing we do when they have a big time recruit show some positive attitude towards the school.

They are automatically assuming the best. No real inside info. Nothing. They are just assuming and hoping like we all do.

Of course this was probably the best point...

I guess when your a recruit you have to smile the whole game...

I was at the Miami game a few years ago and Singler sat right next to me on his trip. If you saw his face you would think he just saw a dead person.

Spin it however you want but, you don't travel from Iowa, in the middle of the week, with your mom and sister, on your own dime (x2), with a HS game on Tuesday and Thursday, to surprise a coach, and wear a duke shirt while sitting between the coaches for nothing.

Give it time.

That said, calm down. Wow.

To me, the longer he holds out and doesn't commit to one of the bigger schools, the better it is for ISU. Here's my thinking....

Harrison, really wants to go to ISU, he's grown up a Cyclone fan and wants to go down in history as one of the best ever at the school. He also, probably, really wants to win and go to a program that will give him the best shot at that. I think he's holding out to see if there is any spark in ISU or any glimmer of hope that if he does stay in Ames, his teams will have a chance at winning.

That's my fantasy anyway. So, hopefully, ISU can end strong, and get some good vibes going for HB.

Calm the heck down people.. it's just a message board. Also, if you go into the profile of the k-ville d-bag he's a Iowa fan.. just stirring the pot.

The papers in NC added it because it is a big deal when he visits out-of-state. The central Iowa papers don't write anything because he's at more games than he's not, making it a non-issue.

Just let the poor kid decide his future. He will come to ISU if that's where he feels the best "fit". If he signs with ISU, that would be awesome. But he doesn't, it wasn't meant to be!
