Possible Bad News

If he does go to Duke I hope the thanks ISU for all they have done for him.

This. He has been around our players and coaches for a long time. He's played with them and I'm sure they've mentored him. I would attribute a decent amount of his basketball maturity to being around ISU.

HB attributes a lot of his development to Jake. He's been quoted numerous times on this.

I think all of these 'why does he want to go to Duke and just be another face in the croud' posts are funny. That would be like saying why does the #1 QB in the country want to go to USC when they could be close to home and play for No Game State.

I love ISU, and would love to see HB play in Hilton, but let's look at the facts...

Duke is almost constanty in the top 10.
Most of their games are on national t.v.
Coach K is a sure file HOF'er.
Being part of the top rivaly in college basketball.
They tend to go deep in the tourney.
If HB lived in any other city in the US, we would not even be in the running.

Again, I would love to see him in an ISU uni, but I am not going to hate him for choosing to go play for a winner.

Anyone have a picture of him in an Iowa State shirt to contradict this? If not someone should get one just for the hell of it so we can start our own thread to scare Duke.

Jake should get credit, for sure. I still think that the guys at ISU should get the same if not more credit. I don't ever see HB giving ISU credit unless he were to commit to us.

Pete Gillen, former coach now works for CBS, said, "Duke basketball is on tv more than "Leave it to Beaver" reruns." That statement couldn't be more true.

He would be going to a good program, a very good educational institution (insert how he's not sticking around here), and will get unbelievable exposure.

Best of luck to him wherever he should decide. Another example of young talent fleeing the state.

I think he had an ISU shirt on at one of the football games. Hopefully one of the stalkers out there took a picture of it.

HB does give ISU credit - and hangs around the players all the time.
We have to start WINNING - and show him something. Just sayin'.
Harrison has always been ours to lose. He has always been a big Cyclone fan. If he leaves, he will do so reluctantly. We have to start winning.

This. We can make it easy by winning a few games. Just showing we can be competitive night-in night-out would go a long ways for any recruit.

How many times is Duke on national tv everyyear? Duke is a top 10 team every year. You get to learn under one of the best college coaches ever. You have a better chance of going pro. You get to play with other people of your own talent level which makes it eaiser to play....i see why

Yet Dook hasnt had the Dook teams of old...so you could go to Duke and be on the team that loses that loving feeling or stay home be the next mayor, have espn do all the stories on just you (see Curry) and be awesome. The choice is simple....Ames baby!

From what i have heard he plays ball in the summer with the BB players, is allowed access to the program, plays pick up games with the team, and plays in the cap city league. Doing any of those isnt going to hurt his game. I still havnt figured out Jake's REAL feeling towards the ISU program and how much input he really has on HB's college choice.

My feeling is that Jake is doing whatever increases his national exposure. It will be interesting to see what he is doing after the HB fallout.

People are overreacting about a message board post? Shocking. Take the glasses off for a second and realize Duke is doing the same thing we do when they have a big time recruit show some positive attitude towards the school.

They are automatically assuming the best. No real inside info. Nothing. They are just assuming and hoping like we all do.

Of course this was probably the best point...

That said, calm down. Wow.

I don't think he went there on his own dime. The rumor was that Dickson Jensen was taking him and the sophomore girl from Huxley in his jet. Who wouldn't take that opportunity? I would and I can't stand Duke. I still think he's an ISU lean.

Wouldn't that be illegal with Jensen being an Iowa State Booster?

Yeah maybe in the eighty's. They have made it passed the sweet sixteen once since 2001.

Well guess what, he lives here so why does this matter?

I find it hilarious that you people think that he is gone, out of our reach. No one but his mother, sister and probably his gf know what he is thinking. It's just plain funny to me to read what you all "think" he is doing. It's obvious what he is doing. He is milking his recruitment for all its worth. If I were him, I would jump at the opportunity to go to Duke/UNC as well and I would wear the Duke shirt in support. If it was at the Dean Dome, I'm sure he would wear Carolina Blue. He wore a Kansas shirt when he was down there too. I'm sure he has his favorites right now, and I will say that ISU is up there; otherwise he would have said no thanks already...but then again I don't have a clue what he is thinking.

I NEVER get a good feeling when I hear Jake talk about Iowa State/Barnes/McDermott. It's Jake's right to do whatever he wants in regards to advising Barnes and he could very well have his best in mind. But I don't necessarily trust that he isn't advising Barnes AGAINST Iowa State. Put it this way, when Jake talks about Barnes and his decision, he says things like there are advantages to each (big school vs. Iowa State). He never says anything like Harrison has to make his own decision, but I really loved my expirence at Iowa State, met my wife there, etc, etc. In fact, I've never heard him mention that he was excited to be named to the All-Century team and isn't around the school a lot.

It is kind of funny that the former player that we have running the main AAU program in the state isn't a fan of our school and there is another former player (Horton) who went out of his way telling Gillstrap how great it is here.

And probably by writing this stuff, I've just added some fuel to whatever Jake doesn't like about Iowa State.

We've only got a few more games to start - so unless we win out it probably won't make a difference.
