Pollard on kxno right now

I love people saying things are dumb but sit there and cant make a statement on there own. You got a better idea genius, god forbid anyone says campus pitches in a little towards the pandemic cuts.

The primary purpose of Iowa State is an academic institution. Athletics is great, but if Iowa State sucked as an academic institution, the majority of ISU grads would have probably chosen another university. I know I would have and would probably have been a Hawkeye. That's a scary thought!!!

Eliminating University funding of Athletic Departments in the state of Iowa was an initiative by the Board of Regents around 10 years ago. With State of Iowa funding reductions for the academic side of Iowa State, Iowa and UNI it only made sense for Iowa & Iowa State's athletic departments to be self-sufficient and not take money from the university general fund. In the end that is a better model for Iowa & Iowa State.

Hopefully, Covid only has a 1 year impact on ISU academic and athletic operations.

Big 12 Champion goes to the Cotton Bowl. The Fiesta has two at large bids this year, which makes it possible we could go to the Fiesta Bowl even if we lose the CCG.
Big 12 has no tie to the Cotton. Only to the Sugar. So since the Sugar is a playoff, the Big 12 champ can go to any of the 3 Peach, Cotton, or Fiesta.

I’m not suggesting cuts, but feel the students are getting the worst of it and nobody seems to care. Kids I talk to say professors are pushing immediately online. I’m not paying in person tuition for online classes. Kids are getting shorted the worst.

Kids have been getting the worst of it since the day universities figured out they could fleece an extra 3% per year on top of inflation by cramming them into student loans...loans supposedly meant to make college more "affordable."

You’re wrong. The winner goes to the cotton. Everyone has been very clear on that.

I dont even know why they are spending money on an entertainment center. Especially 60 million. with our 7-5 record in football, we brought in 52 millions dollars from football alone in 2019. Imagine if CMC sustains this and sustains 10 games win season and goes to bowl games that pay 6 million plus win or lose. Put the money on a coach and staff who can win, which will generate immense revenue.
You know that bowl money is split between the entire conference right. All the bowl money is split, its not like our income is going to magically increase 6 mil from last year. They got the same money last year from the same bowls. Only way it goes up or down is dependent on if the conference gets multiple NY6 bowls or not. But that is still divided between the entire conference.

Care to share where it says that, if you look up the bowls and the tie ins, it does not say that.
if you go here
It specifically says what I stated.
But if you have something other than rumor to show me I would love to see it.

M Basketball and football salaries add up to around 10 million, why are we spending 20 million in salaries for other sports. Almost nobody cares if we win in those revenue losing sports , why are we paying so much. Get some coaches who will work for low six figures.

I agree, I also agree that with the covid situation, all bets are off, one year the University could help. God forbid. That is all I am saying.

Were would the money come for the university to help? Just like the athletic department took a revenue hit, the academic side took something like a $100M funding/revenue hit.

The difference is when the AD took the hit, they pretty much had to adjust salaries to offset the revenue loss. It's pretty hard for athletic teams to go with fewer coaches or lay off full-time operations staff. I am sure there was some savings in PT payroll costs.

On the academic side there is more flexibility- defer projects, not fill open positions, furlough employees, etc.

There aren't $20M of salaries for other sports. Try and just have a tiny little bit of common sense.

The student athletes care if they win/lose.

Also it is not that simple with Title IX. And the Big 12 has requirements on the number of sports ISU must offer.

Lastly, there are a lot of ISU fans who care how well we do in women's basketball, volleyball, wrestling, etc. Having a winning environment within the overall athletic department is critical to an Athletic Department's culture.

The intent of the entertainment district was to be a money maker for the Athletic Department. If I remember correctly, the area was going to be more than an entertainment center. Also a convention center with hotel and meeting/exhibition space. IMO a good incremental use of Hilton, Schemann and CY Stephens.

Today, Pollard explicitly said, "if we win the Big 12 Championship Game, we will go to the Cotton Bowl." That's good enough for me.

It's about the cash flow. The Iowa State Center needs to find a way to survive, and the entertainment district was a key part of that.

I listened to the interview, I think he was making the point that if money was the only thing that mattered to CMC, that he knew ISU couldn't compete, but also was clear that money is not the only thing that makes CMC tick.

The part about poking his head out of the hole had nothing to do with any coaching rumors. I just think JP meant that the have off on Monday/Tuesday after a Saturday game when they have an open Saturday on the schedule. He specifically said they would have a conversation after the bowl season "as we do every year." JP also brought up that CMC doesn't have an agent, so there is no one out there (including CMC because he spends most of his time in this hole) floating his name-implying it is all talk and speculation and not really based on any real information.
That's how I took the comment too about coming out of the hole (the schedule post game/off week). I also imagine given the moving parts of the next month, they need to be on same.page (not about CMCs contract) about bowl situations, needs of the program, etc.

I remember Jamie saying Campbell wouldn't take to him until after his conf championship at Toledo and essentially he doesn't want to talk business until season end.

If ISU doesn’t get something figured out the enrollment is going to dump hard. They are twice the price of CCs and 50% higher than other out of state competition that is still good quality. They are charging in person money for an online product. I know several students that said they are changing at semester due to this.

I know one who went to DMAAC even though he wants to be an engineer and all his classes were online while his friend that went to ISU at least had some in person classes. Don’t see the point of core engineering classes online at DMAAC. If you aren’t solid in those early calculus and physics classes you are not gonna make it
