Pollard on Cydline show?

Can being the operative word. KU's stadium is lame, they seem to be doing ok. They're not the only one.

Lets wait and see how they do after losing Reesing, Briscoe, and Meier before we say they are doing ok... I think they failed to capitalize on the momentum they built on a great class by not doing the necessary facilities upgrages. They will be back to the bottom of the pack next year and I wouldn't be suprised to see Mangino walk out the door with those three.

This is very ironic.

Years ago we had some excellent assistants like Steve Loney and we could not keep them, partly because our assistant coach salary budget was so low.

Then we had an extremely high assistant coach salary budget and we used it to hire some of the worst assistants in the history of college football. At least two of whom we are still paying even though they were fired last year.

Now that we have new and supposedly better assistants, our assistant coach salary budget is again at the bottom and if our guys prove themselves, they'll probably leave for a better offer.

Maybe the previous athletic director didn't beleive Assistant coach salaries was a priority? Or maybe he was too busy with his red pen to go out and raise some money.

Sideways? Or how does he fit through?

I was at the Army game a few weeks ago, and was just astounded by the terrible quality of the sound system, so, through the wonder of email, I contacted JP, and as usual, he responds back fairly quickly. Instead of me paraphrasing what he wrote me, I'll just paste it right here (in italics)...

1. We are aware of the sound system challenges. Unfortunately there is not an inexpensive or simple solution. We do need a new system but need to wait to see when we may be in a position to bowl in the south end zone since that will drastically change our sound system needs and location. Until then it is a constant struggle that includes many variables (song, wind direction, wind strength, temperature, crowd size, etc).

I also, would like to see an improvement to the Sound System. I think that would be $$$ well spent.

$60 MM to Bowl in the Stadium, that seems Crazy. It's just concrete and seats. ISU could do their End-Zone just like K-State, its nice and looks good.

That Kansas City debacle will never be a deal. It may have cost us a game because we were basically playing a road game. How much would that win be worth right now? You can't tell me that whatever extra we made over parking and concessions was worth a loss. I'm not saying we would have won for sure if that game is in Ames, but I'm just saying.

This is flat out not true. I hate to bring up a topic that was beat to death for weeks here but how many people would have shown up on November 28th (Saturday after Thanksgiving) to see 2 bottom dweller in the Big 12 play?

Remember, we couldn't even get 40,000 on that same date playing Missouri for a spot in the Big 12 title game on the line a few years prior.

The KC deal was an absolute no brainer for an AD that NEEDS money.

What are you talking about, those la-z-boys in the end zone make Memorial Stadium look big time....those are quite possibly the dumbest thing I've ever seen done to a football stadium. But hey for 30k you too can sit in a recliner to watch football outside!

I've thought this too. It is just concrete and seats. If I'm not mistaken, the 60 million for this project includes concessions behind the seats, an ISU apparel store, suites and more bathrooms? Right? Why can't they just work on the lower level here...(concrete and seats) and build up when they can....then add your extra concessions, suites...etc.? The bottem level needs to be the foundation anyway right?

I think JP had to do it, but he took a pretty big gamble when he replaced McCarney with Chizik. When he made the move, he was able to justify doing a lot of things from a monetary perspective that he probably couldn't before. Unfortunately, by the end of two years it became obvious to everyone including the cheerleaders that the coaching staff wasn't getting it done. Before we could even try getting some better assistants in there, Chizik bolts for Auburn and throws a big wrench into the whole rebuilding process. By that point, a lot of money has been spent and needs to be recouped, and the results on the field still haven't caught up with the prices being charged, as Jamie probably had hoped for.

Rhoads and his staff have to bring up the level of winning and competitiveness pretty quickly, or I can imagine the fan support slipping quite a bit in the next few years. I really hope the balls start bouncing our way more often on Saturdays, because we are overdue for a little luck.

I only saw one post in this whole thread that referenced what he said about the basketball practice facility. He said 18 months ago he didn't see how it could happen, but now it is open and the staff and teams have moved in.

Just nice to see that at least 1 poster knows how to designate millions in an estimate.

I see far too many incorrect uses of the single M when dealing with millions.

Just a refresher for anyone writing or reading a construction estimate:

M = Thousands
MM = Millions

It's understandable if someone has never been exposed to the established terminology for writing project estimates. If it's a texting culture issue, however, put out a little extra effort and hit that thumb a second time.

Because most people spend a lot of time studying construction estimates...I mean come on, this is worse than people correcting other poster's grammar.

Sorry that I hit your over the top button. Just trying to educate some of the masses willing to listen. Next time you see a grammar error off by a factor of 1000, get back to me.

Its almost like they need to split the Endzone project up and just scrap the upper deck and suites for later. (that would save a ton of money) I would be interested in knowing what it would cost to just do the lower bowl in the South and the North Hills corners and upgrade the Audio and Video.
My guess it would be $10 Million for A/V (which would be an insane upgrade for us) and $20-25 Million for New seats and South Concourse? ( I don't know construction though)

We spent only $12 Million for the East Concourse which included destruction of all those old concession stands, building up the concourse, making new very nice consession/restrooms and plaza and New Entry ways etcc. I can't see how doing this smaller version would come close to $65 Million.
We are supposively in tight with several contruction companies right?
So....
- don't do the upper deck but design it to add on later.
- build up the South Concourse with a few concession stands for continous flow
- install the South Endzone similiar to the 1st Drawing that was proposed that was basically a spinoff of Gene's Smiths idea.
- No suites, but build the structure to add them later.
- Fill in the North Hills in so we lose the Hill jokes and the stadium has a better feel. (make them cheap General addmission seating so people with families don't freak out) AND I am one with a family by the way....
- New Sound and Video. (put the old score board on the opposite side as the new scoreboard) (This would probably run $10 Million just by judging by the Minnesota Stadium)
- Spend a little money and get the Football offices and lockerrooms really pimped out (I don't think people realize how much this means to recruits)

so $30 or 40 Million would be more attainable with a Big donor opposed to $65 Million.
That would put the stadium at about 52,000 -54,000 physical seats and no hills. That is a perfect size for ISU right now. If needing more seats in the future (fingers crossed) then we add on down the road IF Needed.

I mean Central Florida built an entire bowled in 45,000 seat stadium for $54 Million two years ago. Maybe they used sticks and stones I don't know, but it looks nice.

I think the only way we see results is by splitting up the project and going a little cheaper also. Remember when people were having a frickin cow about how cheap and crappy the basketball facility was going to be. There is no complaining now and it may actually save our program. I think the same thing applies to Football right now. Just a thought.

PLUS....Like people are saying above. We really need to start putting a product on the field.

Sounds like Bright House (UCF) really shakes when the fans jump up and down - and not in a good way. Like in a structurally un-sound way. Multiple reviews said otherwise, but they added to the superstructure anyway...
