Pollard on Cydline show?

Wow. Are we sure this is correct? We sold nearly 37,000 season tickets just 2 years ago. It is very hard to imagine we have lost 25,000 season ticket holders in a year. Was the 11,000 a reference to the Arrowhead game?

I agree. That number seems out of whack considering the crowds we've had so far this year. I guess if we consistently have 40,000+ butts in the seats who cares how many of those were season tickets.

We were in a decent position on salaries 18 months ago, but some of the competition in the Big 12 since then has been throwing around salaries that quite simply are beyond our means. Pollard said something along the line of it is what it is and we are what we are. Probably not what we wanted to hear, but a pretty good assessment of reality.

The south end zone has to make economic sense to justify the current estimated 60 million dollar estimate. It's not a "if you build it , they will come" but more of a "it will be built in response to what pushes it". This push has to come from a sustained rebound in the regional economy which in turn will lead to an increased ticket demand and most importantly a lead donor in the 20 million dollar range. Sure sounds to me like a years from now rather than a months from now project.

I'm actually pleased with Pollard's stance on the end zone. The worst thing that could be happening is to have an AD who somehow thinks that a few extra (very expensive) seats in the end zone is the key to improving the football program. Pollard hinted at having some upgrades in mind that will be more appealing to players and recruits than a few seats in the end zone. I'm on board with that and hope that we can deep 6 the end zone obsession for at least 2 or 3 years.

I agree with this. Also we don't want to blow the budget. Live within our means and live to fight another day.

That's not the America I live in. We need to spend more money than we have and look to the Big XII to buy our way out of the hole. I mean we do help give wins to the big boys so that we often have two in the BCS, that has to be worth something right?:jimlad:

He also mentioned moving the track and softball field over by towers... I thought the plan was to have those over off University.

Regarding this, Rec Services and several sport clubs had a meeting with jamie in at the UDCC about this. The plan is for the Athletic department to take most of open land by towers (which is currently used by Intramurals/clubs) and trade it with land in the southwest athletics complex (which is a fair trade). The reason why Towers was selected is that there is less wind there then any other part of university owned land and parking would come from the spaces not used in the towers lot. There is no completion date on this, but Jamie said IF they were to get the money right now this would be completed by 2011. The last rumor I heard comming from a person in Rec Services is that the old track coach (the really successful one) has 1 mil dedicated to the project and that several successful former track athletes may provide the rest and that this could happen sooner rather than latter.

P.S I was also at this meeting.

I look at it this way, there are three people in my family. My wife and I share a room and my six year old sleeps in one. I have an extra bedroom now. What we are wanting, as ISU fans, is a fourth and fifth bedroom added on even though we don't use what we have, or at least a fourth just so it looked better.

I know it would be nice to do, but get real.
That's a decent comparison. But I like mine better: Same scenario as yours but, instead of one kid, you have 2 kids sharing 1 bedroom. You can make do by having them share 1 bedroom, but it would be a lot nicer to be able to build another bedroom to split the kids up. It is possible to keep them together for the time being, bc money is an issue on adding another room, but sooner or later, that second bedroom needs to be done. The questions is, how long before those 2 kids get too old to have to share a bedroom with one another. After all, it will make the house a lot nicer on having that new addition. And maybe because it's nicer, we can host more people over here for parties and people will enjoy coming more.

This comparison is because when we make the new endzone, we close the hillsides. The people on the hillsides will move to the south endzone, so it's not like it will sit there empty. For now, the hillsides work, but we need that south endzone built to improve the looks, etc.

11,000 @ $350
I would guess this is correct. Student tickets and End zones are probably not in this equation. I would guess that the 37000 number included everything including Applebees and whatever else they could stick in there. I sat in my old section 13 last game and only recognized two people from my old area. This down economy is real.

11,000 number has to be wrong. Way, way wrong. Most likely that was a comment about the KC game. The number matches up too perfectly for it not to be.

I could be wrong. Did anyone else hear the it the same as me?

We sold more than 11k season tickets. I can't believe how many of you people are buying that just based on a message board comment with no source. We just had 3 consecutive season over 30k and several in the high 20s before that. You would have to go back a long time to find a season where we only sold 11k season tickets.

I don't think JP was ever half as optimistic about the south endzone project as many of the posters on this board would like to think he is/was.

IMO - it's been a wish list item from the get-go. I had no expectations of it happening. Nor am I sure it should right now.

Thats too bad. I was really liking the idea of one large atletic conplex with high visibilty on busy roads. Having it by towers doesn't really help the visibilty issues, especially if they tear down the remaining buildings.

Looks like we need another Boone Pickens from the ethanol industry or something.

Winning games is becoming even more important.

I blame Bobcats.

The buildings are going to stay as far as i know. His presentation and posters had the Towers there, its the land directly east of towers where the track would be located, and eventually later down the road in phase two of the project a new softball field.

I think the South Endzone project has always hinged on a donor. Poor economy has likely kept the prospective big donor from making the donation. There were some pretty credible rumors this summer of that donation being almost handed over.

As far as 11,000 season tickets, no way in hell.

perhaps jamie is simply managing expectations a little here. it could be entirely possible that the donor is still close to a committment, but jamie sees all this rampant speculation and decided to knock expectations down a notch so when we do get the donation the fan base becomes that much more re-energized.

Wishful thinking?

I'm just curious as to how long it would take to build the new south endzone. Is it something that could be done in the period of one offseason? Or would it take 2?

Yes, I can confirm from a friend in the Foundation that the South Endzone project was NOT a pipe dream and that a big donor was identified and in final negotiations. The economic meltdown has probably put all of that on hold for the last 12-18 months and maybe for the near future, but it is not as if JP had no idea where the money for a lead donation would come from.
