Patterson Comments

I honestly thought he turned an ankle or something while looking back until he started "cramping".
I didn't. I saw it from the start and was 99% sure he was faking. A ref was right there and I was crapping myself.

Yeah, I'd want to see the play again to be more certain but I'm not convinced Kempt knew he had a free play there. He might have just dodged a bullet. Moot point, I suppose.

My favorite part about Saturday's win, besides the whole 'winning' thing, is that ISU played really hard, and that's ingrained, but didn't play all that well or smart at times and have lots to improve on.

Campbell alluded to it during the post-game and I'm glad they don't have the opportunity or time to be satisfied with what they've done so far. There was a comment or two about how his post-game speech wasn't all that epic. Works for me.

On one of the offsides penalties the LBer ran up to and over the line and just stood there offsides until the ball was snapped. Can't blame the refs for that one.

It is kind of refreshing for ISU to actually get a few of these calls. Part of it could be because they are winning and part of it is that they are frustrating the heck out of other teams because the Clones are not suppose to be making plays.

They had no less than 3 holds on the KOR TD. One was an outright tackle. I don't want to hear about the bad calls they got.
Yeah, I didn't see the tackle at the game but when I watched highlights my mind was blown that open field tackle didn't get called. It was literally the block that opened the giant running lane.
Curious about everyone's thoughts on this. During the TCU KO return for a TD, I thought there was an obvious hold. But watching it again, i'm not sure. Check out this video at the 0:47 mark, watch ISU #89 and TCU #15 on the lower left.
Yeah it is a hold for the entirety of the block. And as he tried to pull away he tackled him. It is nearly as blatant as they come. Even initially him and the blocker next to him are holding bad both guys got thrown to ground.
Definitely a hold/tackle, but the blocker did a good job of selling it.

I think one of their holding penalties was BS, another was very marginal. We could ask them if they'd want to trade that for the multiple uncalled holds on the only score of the game. I doubt they'd trade.

Yeah, Kempt threw that ball knowing he had a free play. I was more worried about our players getting hurt chasing the guy than I was with TCU scoring, that's how positive I was the play was coming back.

I thought it was funny when the guy who took it back started taunting the SEZ near where I was and then it got called back

I think those are fair comments from Patterson. If I was him I'd want to review the penalties, too. But I think what he'll find is that although a handful of the holding calls could be described as ticky-tack, TCU got away with a few things too - there was at least one missed holding call on Turpin's kick return TD and I still don't know why Turpin wasn't flagged for signaling a fair catch and then taking off with the ball.

He should be more concerned with the playcalling on offense. Kenny Hill had the kind of game I had gotten accustomed to seeing from bad Jared Barnett back in the day. Why they didn't take it out of his hands and pound the ball on the ground is beyond me. They were gashing ISU running the ball.

In the end, it didn't matter. The better team won.

Speaking of bad calls I thought the holding call against ISU canceling Montgomery's big run was BS, looked like TCU was holding our centers arm not vise versa.

Lima's hands & punch are nasty. Still think the illegal hands to face call was the result of hitting the center's chest plate of his shoulder pads so hard that his head snapped back making it look like he hit his face.

Trent did the same thing with his 2 hand push-pull or whatever the DL move is & the TCU center had to grab him with his entire left arm. That holding call pushed them back after getting to the 2 or 3 yard line.

As to #9, he had timed up our hand slap cadence so well he blew by Campos for the sack. Campbell & assistant were immediately talking to Kempt after the play & we went voice cadence rest of game. The offsides with the non-pick 6 resulted from that change. Was thinking we should have done so earlier but nice to see the adjustment on the fly.

Good call there. I had forgotten about that play. He was in the backfield before Campos was even out of his stance.

Campos was well aware of #9 getting off so quick due to the hand clap, too & immediately lobbied for the change. I was thinking he'd get nailed with a hand clap & not snapping the ball. Guess that would be the hand clap version of the long cadence.

Lima’s hand activity is what I’ve waited years to see from our DL. He’s likely a natural, but Trent and JD have been better, too.

I said it during the play. Go deep. Always go deep. 2 good things happen. PI and a catch. Anything bad is null and void

Or maybe the flag is for an offensive penalty? Not sure it's this obvious to many of the players in the fractions of a second between snap and action.

44 is tackled. 89 is held. 33 was borderline but probably fine. 44 is egregious and inexcusable to miss.
