Ozigbo commits to Nebraska

You can only laugh any more and cry I guess. Good luck selling the program with a coach that wont be there in 2016.

Nebby coach probably said we need a back, let's go raid Ames since they cannot hold onto anyone.

I hope Mike Warren is a stud.

He is. We have four pretty good backs.

This isn't a big deal. First, we don't need him. Second, RB is a place where freshmen can play relatively easily so you grab a couple next year and if they are pressed into action, that's fine. Maybe you find a JUCO maybe you don't.

Talked to my buddy who obsessed with Nebraska. He says unless Ozigbo is super under rated he likely won't even see the field at NU for 2-3 years and even then they'll likely over recruit him. NU wants quick RBs like Abdullah not power guys like Ozigbo. Even he thinks Ozigbo may be making a big mistake.

As long as both sides are equally locked in, this might work.
For a school like ISU, it most likely means that we don't see early commits, since anyone with any shot at a better offer would just hold out for those offers, leaving us either to snap up less talented players who don't have those options or be left with open roster spots.

Whatever you do, you don't level the playing field in recruiting without winning. Programs like ours that are not winning won't be getting advantages from any change to the system.

That's dumb. Of course we would. Kids are committing now down south before they can take an official to see us so an early signing period would benefit us. Some kids that blow up in the fall that commit to us over the summer would be locked in with an early period and benefitting us. The current system hurts northern schools sonyes fixing it would help remove a current inequity.

I agree that this isn't a huge deal in the short term. But it is more confirmation that Rhoads' job is even harder now that the buzzards are circling.

Part of me hopes he sits on the bench for 5 years at Nebraska and never sees the field. It might be a good lesson for him.

I agree with those that don't think this is going to hurt us much though. RB is not the problem with this team IMO. We'll be fine with Nealy, Warren, Brown, etc as long as our OL is vastly improved.

This isn't a big deal in terms of next season. It's frustrating, but if Warren is as good as advertised and there's a good back in the 2016 class losing Ozigbo will ultimately be irrelevant. Plus JUCO is a good place to go to for running backs, probably more so than some other positions.

Nice...........Does it give you pleasure when an ISU recruit decommits???

And you call yourself a Cyclone fan???:no:

Hoping the LOL was a drinking-related post.

Hoping Rhoads gets another few pieces of good news before the CF Recruitment Party.

Commitments in football are a joke. Absolutely hate the process.

I really wish there was an early signing period in December for high schoolers. I dunno if it would have impacted Ozigbo. Butin general I think that would greatly benefit a mid level program like ours.

Man, this era of Iowa State football just can't end soon enough. Just delaying the inevitable another year.

I really hate to agree with U...but the end seems to be near for the CPR regime.

It will be interesting to see how many empty seats there are inside JTS......

This really sucks. CPR clearly won't survive next year

The only way I see PR surviving is a Bowl Trip and I don't see that in 2015.............

If we keep building enough football facilities we mite just luck out and find another Johnny Majors or Earle Bruce or maybe another Dan McCarney.....

Haha, forgot about the CF Signing Day party. Can't help but to think it may get a tad awkward this year considering half, or more, of the crowd wanted him out.

The statement that Nebraska wants quick guys like Abdullah and not power guys like Ozigbo just isn't true. The depth chart doesn't show this and who the new coaching staff has targeted hasn't shown this. The coaching staff said Ozigbo is the guy they wanted.

The RB room at Nebraska is wide open right now. I doubt Ozigbo plays next year and someone better may very well be signed at RB in 2016. If no one steps up in the spring he could have a chance in the fall to get some playing time.

I saw some people mention Ozigbo said he wanted to be the only RB in this class. Nebraska had a guy committed in February that said the same thing and switched to Tennessee after the new staff was hired. It wasn't likely he stayed even if Pelini wasn't fired. The old staff didn't recruit another RB that entire time and that's why Nebraska went after Ozigbo. Hopefully Coach Rhoads and staff didn't make the same mistake of letting a recruit dictate their class and have some backup plans available.

Great post. That is exactly what happened. Rhoads and crew offered up the promise that Ozigbo would be the only RB they'd take in 2015 and sold it against the Hawkeyes who still had Ware and Higdon on the board. Well, it worked poaching him from the Hawks, but sure screwed Rhoads in the long run. This was the top recruit in the 2015 class...by far...kid didn't even need a redshirt to develop (ala Nelson who needs 60 pounds to see the field). Huge loss. Denver Johnson and Seth Nerness are next.

These de-commits are showing me that it is probably more risky to the future of a program for an athletic director to sign a coach to a long-term contract than to keep him to shorter 4- and 5-year contracts and risk losing him to another school. Now, schools like Iowa and ISU are basically stuck with lame duck coaches who are being negatively recruited against. The exception to this rule is someone like Fred Hoiberg, obviously. I'm not sure that many schools were barking down the Paul Rhoads tree, that we needed to extend his contract to eternity!
