OT - Cutting Cable

Anyone else in the DSM area have the audio not match mouth movements on WOI (ABC) when watching live? Just started last night. It’s always been a little off on KCCI but it was REALLY bad last night on ABC.
On demand and all other channels are fine.

This is YouTube TV by the way

I apologize if this has been discussed but I am not reading through 55 pages of thread to see.

About a week ago I noticed that after a software update on my Samsung Smart TV I had access to a service called TVPlus. It added over 50 stations that stream 24/7. Most of them are trash. One Ask This Old House streaming 24/7. Nice for a person who doesnt want to spend money on a TV service. Occasional decent movie is available. Multiple channels with cooking shows. A few sports channels. Not sure if the channels vary by location.

Personally $50-$60 a month is about the limit for me for a cable replacement in YTTV. They added a few junk channels with their last increase, so any more of that and I may be out and on to individual channel streaming as they come online. I’ll fill my tv void with something more productive.

This is pretty much the philosophy of our household as well. We didn't have cable TV, and we picked up Sling because the price was cheap and it provided some channels that we were actually interested in. If Sling continues to add more junk and raise prices, we will drop them, and find something else to do instead of watching TV. Hec, we get over 60 broadcast channels here, I'm sure we can find some old reruns to numb our minds just as well as HGTV and ESPN do.

Somehow, the cable TV providers (and to a lesser extent the streaming providers) have convinced consumers to pay for thousands of hours of programming a month, of which only a small fraction is actually consumed. It might be one of the biggest scams ever concocted by the human race. And we play right along...

Didn't want to start a new thread, but HBO has announced a third streaming service: HBO Max.

HBO Max is coming out in Spring of 2020. This is a partnership between HBO and WarnerMedia.

HBO Max has earned the exclusive rights to air all the episodes of Friends, Fresh Prince of Bel Air and is also the exclusive streaming provider for all of the CW DC programs (Arrow, Flash, Batwoman, Legends of Tomorrow, Riverdale, and Katy Keene).

There will also be exclusive movies produced by Greg Berlanti (creator behind the Arrowverse) and also Reese Witherspoon.

It was also just announced that Season 2 of Doom Patrol will also air on HBO Max (Season 1 was a DC Universe exclusive).

This package is separate from HBO Now & HBO Go.

I wonder what that means for the CW app. I hope I can still DVR the flash or watch it somewhere besides HBO max. From how it reads, TV shows will still be available from the CW app during the season besides the HBO exclusives like catwoman will be premiered a month earlier than the normal CW channel.

Just received a notice that DirecTVNow is now becoming AT&T TV NOW. Cumbersome name. But the email states that since I'm an existing customer there will be no change of service. Curious what changes are coming.

AT&T streaming services are a mess right now. Too many competing services under one umbrella. Not to mention the original DTV services.

HBO Now
HBO Go
HBO Max*

AT&T Watch
AT&T TV Now
AT&T TV*

* is a new streaming service announced and in development.

Pluto TV
Crackle
Vudu
Tubi
Prime Video (if you have prime)

The one thing I wish were on fire stick/tv is VUDU. But most smart tv’s have VUDU or Google Play Movies so it is alright. Amazon’s movie library set up is too frustrating and user unfriendly for me to use compared to VUDU. Wal-Mart and Amazon need to get over their feud and offer all services on all devices/tv’s. Let the market settle it the old fashioned way.

Moving apartments next week and my old one included free internet and cable but my new one doesn't. Going 1Gbps up/down but still haven't decided on the streaming service.

Between Sling + Sports, Hulu Live, or YTTV. Anything that would set me over the edge one way or the other?

Sports is my main focus since all 3 have my other channels

Depends on the channels you want. If its just espn/fs networks plus locals, then YTTV is the way to go if you don't use a firetv. If you use a roku, hulu live tv is the best option for the money currently. If you want all out sports everything, PS Vue is your answer.

PSVue isn't an option since I mainly use my Xbox. Only have Rokus, Roku TVs, and an Xbox.

I'll probably go YTTV at this rate since it's got mostly everything but the NFL Network and Longhorn Network.

Hulu got a new grid guide on the Roku, Apple TV and a few others.

A huge improvement to Hulu live tv. Definitely closed the gap on yttv a bit.

Can anyone confirm for me that Sling only allows 1 ESPN channel to be streamed at a time?
Has nothing to do with the channel. It's the number of concurrent streams that are allowed.
