OT - Cutting Cable

Can anyone confirm for me that Sling only allows 1 ESPN channel to be streamed at a time?

If the channel is in the orange package you get only 1 stream on 1 device.
If the channel is in the blue package you get 3 streams on any combo of devices.

If you get orange and blue, you get a total of 4 streams, 1 orange and 3 blue.

ESPN is a orange stream so you only get 1 stream of ESPN from sling, since all the ESPN channels are in the orange package.

So if I get the Orange+Blue+Sports I still only get 1 stream of ESPN since ESPN is an Orange package?

Yes, because you are buying 2 different package just bundled together. The number of stream for each package stays the same. The advertisement of you get 4 streams with orange + blue is just adding the number of streams allowed from each package.

Wow that's lame. I have 3 TVs so I can watch multiple college football games and sometimes the good ones are all on ESPN networks. YTTV it is then...

Yeah. YTTV is fantastic for unless you have a firetv. Currently using hulu live due to the channel line up. The new user interface that was just released is much much better.

^^my scenario exactly......just let my dish go away, and am trying the psvue now. I got the 2nd lowest package with the sports add on.....working on my firestick 4k so far fine.....

My Dish contract is up next month. Looking at cutting the cord and going with the high PS Vue package. Anyone have PS Vue? Looks like I'll be able to catch all the Cyclone FB games on it.

Nothing wrong with PS Vue. Are you still in PC? If so are you on CL or mediacom?

I had issues with PS vue and buffering on CL. Hulu and yttv had no issues fwiw.

PsVue has worked great for me for almost 5 years now. Love it’s guide vs other streaming services and can stream on more devices simultaneously than should ever be needed (6). I subscribe to the core channel bundle. No buffering issues for me and I use Century Link, it is 1 gig though so I better not see any issues. I had 100 MbPs before that and didn’t have issues either. Streaming on a firetv hooked up by Ethernet on the main tv, but have no issues on a wirelessly hooked up fire stick or ps4 on the other TVs.

Still in PC. I had CL for a year or so and it was horrible in my neighborhood. Have had Mediacom for the past 5 years or so and it's been pretty good. I have the 200 mbps plan hoping that is enough throughput and data.

You shouldn't have any issues. I had horrible luck with mediacom being down at least once a week in my area. CL was much slower but much more reliable until the past year. Hooked up with mi-fiber now and have had absolutely no issues.

Have had PSVue for over 2 years now. Pretty happy with it. Gives me all the channels I want. NFL RedZone is the big one that YTTV doesn't have (unless recently added).

Hey Now! I finally have ABC 5 again on Direct TV! Figured they would get that figured out for college football season. :)

ok I am ready to take the cord cutting. Mediacom is just oblivious to anything. Some questions for you professionals:

1) How do I get my local channels?
2) None of my plasma's are smart tvs can I get a amazon firestick and get all the apps I need such as YouTube TV, Sling, locals?
3) Is sling the way to go?

Thanks all!

Easiest way to get local channels would be with an antenna. Can be difficult getting a clear signal.

Find a device (firestick, apple tv, roku, etc ) that meets your needs and get one. Or just go buy a smart tv with the apps you need. It's crazy how inexpensive tvs are these days.

I've used hulu live tv and playstation vue in the past preferring hulu.

Also, Disney will be releasing a service that includes disney+ espn+ and the hulu basic plan. I'm sure you could add live tv to this and have a nice little bundle.

1. Most of the streaming services now have local channels. Or you can buy an indoor antenna.

2. I use Rokus and really like them. I know people like the fire sticks as well.
I don't think it is as prevalent, but streaming services used to give a free device if you paid for 3-6 months upfront. It looks like DirectTV Now still does it:

You might want to look around to see if there are other offers like this.

3. Feel free to go back and read all 56 pages of this thread for this debate lol
The streaming services are becoming more and more similar. I have PSVue and like it.
I've seen others that say YouTube TV is really good.
You'll just have to compare the channels that are offered, the channels you want/need, and the cost.
There are plenty of comparisons/reviews out there.

I'd recommend doing a free trial to make sure your internet can handle it, and everything is set up correctly.

Locals you can get with an antenna or Hulu live, PS Vue and YoutubeTV (YTTV) do have most local channels.

You can get a fire stick or roku. If you don't consider yourself very techy, the roku is easier to set up and navigate.

Sling is mediocre compared to PS Vue, Hulu live or YTTV. YTTV has the most "cable like" design and feeling to it. Hulu live is good but a bit more complicated to use. I've avoid ATT now, as it is the typical contract bs.

I'd recommend starting with YTTV and getting a roku streaming stick plus or a fire stick 4k. The fire stick 4k may be cheaper as it has been on sale a lot lately, but it comes down to interface preference. I prefer the roku. Now if you use Alexa alot, fire stick is the way to go.

Also what are your internet speeds? If you're going to use wireless, make sure you have a good router.
