Omaha Biliew Commits to Iowa State!

The bolded is 100% correct but the problem I have with it all, especially at really young ages, is how selective these teams are. There are kids that get left behind that in 3 or 4 years could be a heck of a baseball player but since he was struggling as a 2nd grader now they don't have a home. We have 100% went too far.

My son plays in a "select" soccer club but I use that word loosely. That's what I've appreciated about soccer though, most clubs truly care about individual development. They would rather organize their teams in a way that allows the kids to grow and play multiple positions instead of hanging banners and winning rings. Yes, we go and play in competitive tournaments in places like Kansas City but then the club also organizes the teams so that they are tiered appropriately for different levels of competition. I just hate seeing organizations like Little League getting gutted for USSSA travel/tourney ball, it's one of the last large organized youth sports organization that truly does it the right way.

I coach Little League and have for a long time. My middle just finished AA ball and let me tell you this is the year the league usually gets just demolished by some parent on the All-Star team basically forming a U Trip team of the All-Stars.

That's my whole complaint with this. Everything gets hollowed out by the people spending thousands of dollars. There are no good pitchers left in the league, so nobody gets good pitches to hit, and nobody gets better. Then everybody quits because the games are kind of boring.

This thread is totally derailed now, sorry I did a part of it. Let me just say I really hope we get Omaha. It'd be incredibly special to watch him play in an ISU uniform even if it's just for one year.

Yeah that is a big nope for my daughter. She played club soccer on one of the best teams in state and actually won state a few times. Her best friends were the kids on that team and a few others from School. She also got to go on trips to Orlando, Denver, KC, Tulsa, Chicago, Minneapolis and so on to play other teams. So she loved it. Never wanted to do much else but play soccer with her best friends. She also got offered by a lot of schools to play but never wanted to play college soccer. She is going to play Club level soccer in college. Which in some cases can actually beat the actual College soccer team.
Why on earth wouldn't she take the free ride?

All you hardcore wanker travel/club/bs/USssssssAAA parents can say whatever you want to justify it, but we both know there were days where your kid cried and begged you to play with his friends and be a kid instead of going to (insert scam travel league initials here) practice or games. And they went to the practice or game. You've gotta live with that not me.
Wow, that’sa bit of a generalization. Actually, I’ve seen both. Some of my daughters friends gave it up after a few years and the parents were relieved that they were out. Others are driving for that college scholarship. I told my daughter from the very beginning that this is something that only a handful of women in the entire world can make a decent living at, so once it stops being fun she should call it quits. Maybe it’s because her sport is beach volleyball but I’ve never had to force her to go to the beach. Actually, we’ve forced her (she wasn’t happy about it) to skip practices for a variety of reasons.

My local little league was corrupt. When my kids were young I was self employed having a lot of time during the day. So I'd go to our xrappy fields to get the water off so we could play. Asked by board members of older kids to join. Went to coaches meeting to select all stars caught them fixing the team based on who the parents were. After that I found a program because the local Utrip team wanted nothing to do with us. Felt so good when they got to junior high and they suddenly discovered what they missed out on.

It'd be absolutely hilarious to see the total value of D1 scholarships given out to Iowa high school athletes in all sports vs all the $ dumb@ss Uncle Rico type parents spend specializing Timmy on one sport with ungodly hours spent because he's the next coming of Larry Bird or Cal Ripken.

Club sports value would drop immensely. IMO

I agree with your general sentiment, but my broad brush opinion has changed on this.

Several kids on my sons baseball team play on numerous other teams. It dominates their whole summer. They practice all 4 seasons. Talked to the dad about it. He said his boys love it. They’re good at it. And he’s chose to teach the values of hard work, discipline, & teamwork through baseball.

His boys were the most encouraging & mature boys on the team. Never saw the dad express frustration to anyone either.

I wish youth sports was different, but I’m done saying all parents are living through their kids. Everyone just has different styles & priorities.

Well it’ll be like watching Hunter for a year but hopefully it won’t be like Hunter and have to play against him for maybe 3 games next season!

I agree it might not fit every scenario but it fits the vast majority. Every parent will tell you how much their kid loves playing (insert scam league intials here). If you ask the kid that in front of their dad most would probably agree. Timmy: "Yeah TripleDoucheS League is the best, right Dad?" Have that same kid's classmate ask him about it at school. The burnout is real and all the idiot parents don't realize how detrimental their actions are to the development of their kid.

It's all a scam, one of the things D1 coaches praise most when they are talking about incoming freshman is when they are multi sport athletes who are well rounded. You never any coach say, "By god I'm glad Jimmy's parents decided to turn him into a 1 sport athlete playing travel leagues by 8, because otherwise he would've never made the team".

Because her major is pretty tough and she wants to concentrate on school. She also had a surgery on her hip and don’t want to put that much time and effort into soccer anymore with her hip problems. It’s not like football or basketball. Nobody even comes to see them play. I’m ok with it. Btw that’s the exact reason

Daughters played club in 3 sports each. They didn't complain about missing their friends because they became close friends with the girls on their teams. Still friends with many of the travel teammates.
Many weekends spent together as a family, wouldn't trade that for anything.
