Omaha Biliew Commits to Iowa State!

What I hate about baseball is how young the whole club/tournament team stuff starts. At least in WDM there is zero inclusion and it starts in like 2nd grade.

But if there was no 2nd grade team Johnny Beergut wouldn’t be able to brag about how his son is on a “big time” club team where there was no selection process besides having a check that clears.

As a parent of a young son that wrestles in a club setting I don't do it to brag. I have him there so he can at least keep pace with kids that are participating in the sport year round and have been for the better part of a decade. This is really how club sports do so well. They sell you on the fact that your kid wont be competitive if they aren't doing this. And to some extent I think they are correct. But you will also get a lot of kids that grow to hate their sport. The pendulum has likely swung a little too far.

Wrestling was the original club deal. I agree that it’s hard to be competitive, especially in wrestling, if you don’t start at a young age.

I do question the validity of some kid getting 18 at bats and having 5 balls hit to him in right field for 5 games over the course of 3 days. 72 hours of time and a lot of money invested for not a ton of action.

but that might just be because he recently put in a crystal ball for fb 4star recruit Sadiq. Hey, let's hope it's both!
I should’ve specified it was in response to a question about when OB would be committing.

The RecPlex in West Des Moines is owned and operated by the city of West Des Moines... Yes, they had some large sponsorships form HyVee and Mid American to get it going but not all of these places are private organizations and nor should they be. My generation of parent has absolutely youth sports and savvy business folks sniffed that out and they are more than willing to exploit it. The cost involved is the #1 reason the Des Moines public schools can't put together competitive teams. Roosevelt has had some but they still get buried by the well to do's.
It'd be absolutely hilarious to see the total value of D1 scholarships given out to Iowa high school athletes in all sports vs all the $ dumb@ss Uncle Rico type parents spend specializing Timmy on one sport with ungodly hours spent because he's the next coming of Larry Bird or Cal Ripken.

The bolded is 100% correct but the problem I have with it all, especially at really young ages, is how selective these teams are. There are kids that get left behind that in 3 or 4 years could be a heck of a baseball player but since he was struggling as a 2nd grader now they don't have a home. We have 100% went too far.

My son plays in a "select" soccer club but I use that word loosely. That's what I've appreciated about soccer though, most clubs truly care about individual development. They would rather organize their teams in a way that allows the kids to grow and play multiple positions instead of hanging banners and winning rings. Yes, we go and play in competitive tournaments in places like Kansas City but then the club also organizes the teams so that they are tiered appropriately for different levels of competition. I just hate seeing organizations like Little League getting gutted for USSSA travel/tourney ball, it's one of the last large organized youth sports organization that truly does it the right way.

Most parents just want to give their kids the best opportunity to compete. My son for instance played for Baker Baseball out of Laconia. It gave my son an opportunity to hit one day a week with Dave Baker a former big leaguer and an opportunity the for a group of kids from places like Carlisle, Pleasantville, I-35, Melcher-Dallas, Chariton and SE Warren an opportunity to play and beat some of the elite programs in the state. ( run ruled Sticks black in pool play of state)

That is pretty awesome. It definitely sounds like it was worth the money and thousands of extra hours vs playing city league ball, I'm sure your son was grateful for the opportunity to hit with a legend like Dave Baker.

Fiefdom's in baseball are awful. Because one kid's father volunteered early, he rides his team up to high school age. I've seen talented kids get rejected because the coach wants to maintain the right "culture", otherwise known as his kid's friends.

All you hardcore wanker travel/club/bs/USssssssAAA parents can say whatever you want to justify it, but we both know there were days where your kid cried and begged you to play with his friends and be a kid instead of going to (insert scam travel league initials here) practice or games. And they went to the practice or game. You've gotta live with that not me.

Looks like 247 just updated their ratings. Omaha is up to #12 (from 13), Milan is up to #32 (from 34), Jelani is up to #129 (from 131).

Legit chance both Omaha and Milan could both be 5 star recruits and McD AA before all is said and done .

Changes were due to GG Jackson and Ugonna Kinglsey reclassifying from 2023 to 2022

Dave is a great guy. I describe him as a grumpy uncle that the kids love even when he's chewing their ass. Money wise it wasn't bad. Had a few fundraisers ( poker tournament and such) Mainly just a lot of driving. 45 minutes to Laconia one a week 10 month a year and 30 minutes to Milo for practice 2x a week over the pre/season.

Wasn't sure if the legend comment was sarcasm but he's in a pretty elite club.

Never once. Competing was their rush and during the season their teammates were their friends. Plus they only practiced twice a week and games on the weekend. Usually 10 tournaments a year.

Yeah that is a big nope for my daughter. She played club soccer on one of the best teams in state and actually won state a few times. Her best friends were the kids on that team and a few others from School. She also got to go on trips to Orlando, Denver, KC, Tulsa, Chicago, Minneapolis and so on to play other teams. So she loved it. Never wanted to do much else but play soccer with her best friends. She also got offered by a lot of schools to play but never wanted to play college soccer. She is going to play Club level soccer in college. Which in some cases can actually beat the actual College soccer team.
