Oklahoma Game Thoughts

Lol, give me a break. Playcalling isn't rocket science. I'm not calling for Manning's head, just noting how one ounce of game awareness would tell Manning that OU's line is getting through instantly on every play, so handing it to your RB to pass is especially unwise.
Yeah man! Anyone can be a d1 offensive coordinator!

Give me a freaking break.

I would be curious to hear an explanation of why anyone thought the double pass play would be legal. 15 years ago when the forward pitch to the WR coming in front of the QB was a new concept, sure I can understand how an OC could be confused, but it's just mind-blowing that that play is even in the playbook. It looked like the players executed it the way it was drawn up, so I don't really blame them. Inexcusable mistake that cost us points and momentum. I am about the least reactionary person around, and maybe the last one to call for a coaches' job, but whoever designed that play doesn't understand one of the most basic rules of offense and should not be here next year.

I was broadcasting a high school game this season where they ran this exact play, the tap-forward to the guy in motion followed by a pass downfield. It was flagged correctly as an illegal forward pass.

I had to explain to my color guy - who’s been covering sports for 40-some years - why the play wasn‘t legal. He was under the apprehension that tap-pass was a handoff & therefore a running play.

I only have to remember Tavon Austin and West Virginia at Jack Trice in 2012 to know how that play works.

Not enough screen passes outside yesterday. It was one of the few things that worked in first half.

While it didn't impact our play, I have to say that the stadium experience/atmosphere was impressive. The volume was LOUD which I know there is another thread discussing the volume at JTS but the sound was also clear and crisp so it never sounded bad. They had a DJ/hype man on the mic from the sidelines at nearly every time out that helped get the crowd into whatever dance, cam, promo they were doing and kept the crowd into it.

Brock became a runner with the ball, which is why he didn't get the call. It's hard for refs to do the targeting thing when I don't think they even know what it is.
He lowered his head and launched himself. That is targeting. Isheem got called for a hit where the runner dropped his head and they hit helmet to helmet, while he as still in contact with the ground. If you leave your feet, any contact to the head is deemed targeting basically.

And several times the PA guy was still talking after the play started. Which I thought was illegal to do. We couldn’t hear hardly anything the ref announced though.

I thought the crowd experience reminded me of the 2005 type stuff we did. Kick for chicken nuggets, catch something for a free pizza, strike a pose like a player.

Two things I think they need to fix. 1) the bathrooms. Thought I walked into 1970 with the porcelain urinals. Only about 4-5 sinks to wash your hands also, maybe OU fans don’t wash? 2) the tickets entry. You scan your own so you can just walk in and hang out if you choose to. Walk inby someone and you won’t get checked.

My Thoughts. Losing sucks!

The pain of losing typically subsides after a good night's sleep. For some reason, yesterday's Sooner loss is bothering me more as today has gone on.

The Grambling hoops win didn't help much.

The PA guy was impressive with his thuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurd & 5(or whatever it was) and it did run into the snap on some plays.
I was also surprised at the self serve ticket scanning process and how loosely it was monitored. 2 in our group went in and stood to wait for another person to scan all of the tickets and no one questioned them.

Tavon Austin was exactly the name I was thinking of.
It really isn't that new of a concept.

I’ve been to 4-5 games in Norman and I’ve never been around such crybaby fans as I was this time. EVERY call that didn’t go their way they blamed the refs and cried about how the Big 12 is out to get them now that they have stated they are leaving the conference. I also had to educate several fans around me that were POSITIVE Brock Purdy was a 5-6 year senior. And EVERY time an OU fan was on the Jumbotron they did the horns down motion. I’ve never seen a fan base that is more preoccupied with another school like that…pathetic…. I say good riddance

I don’t understand how they complain about Texas and make fun of them but turn around and be their whoar also. Texas wants something, OU says sounds great. They could have owned the big xii, waited for Texas to mess up the SEC and in 5 years taken their place when Texas starts looking elsewhere. They don’t understand that the calls they are getting, will flip when they move. No way bama, Florida, Georgia and others allow them to get favorable calls. Welcome to 8-4 on a regular basis.

I never thought I would live to see a Cyclone fan meltdown over a loss to Oklahoma. We had a miracle tie when I was a student a year after getting rolled by about five touchdowns. So many years the losses not even close. We have had two wins since 2017, when we had five for decades before that. I think our team is preparing for greater levels of success but not sure about our fans.

Tough loss. The strip of Purdy was the key play. Not gonna dump on Purdy. He was a warrior the whole game. The whole team gave their all. Can‘t fault the effort. Go Cyclones.

It was NOT executed correctly. Dekkers was supposed to handoff to Noel not flip the ball.

Do you really think they would have an “illegal” play in the playbook!!

Enough amateur hour Monday morning quarterbacking!! Good grief
What's dumb is the idea to run a trick play with a back-up quarterback when the starter wasn't forced to leave the field and think that somehow the defense is NOT going to think that a trick play is about to happen.

If Brock's helmet had come off or had blood on his jersey or something... that's one thing. but to put in a kid whose not played in 6 weeks and then try a trick play when the defensive coordinator for Oklahoma and every defender with a brain is going to be thinking " this seems odd" and then thinking somehow they will fall for it...

its almost like double secret probation at that point. You know that I know that you know that I know that you know evidence by the fact that a worse pass could hvae been picked for a touchdown given how well the play was defended.

What was down and distance?

Not necessarily the definition of targeting... but it was unnecessary roughness.

OU fans are insufferable Richards. Can't wait for them to get pasted in the SEC.
