***Official Post Game Thread - ISU vs. Nebraska***

First major mistake outta Hoiberg as coach: Taking the air out of the ball with 3 minutes to go. You got back into it getting transition buckets. You can't put the game on DG's shoulders with 3 minutes and say "here ya go kid, win it for us. Need you to make your own buckets for the next 3 minutes." He tried to fix what wasn't broken. DG is a quality point guard, but he isn't Sherron Collins. Telling him to try to create his own shot inside 10 seconds is putting him in a position to fail because he doesn't have options. He HAS to force something up, good shot or bad.

Our guys were 100% pooped. You get that? By taking the air out of the ball, Fred gave ISU a chance to win a Big 12 game on the road. You don't know squat about basketball, you are just another frickin ISU fan popping negative crap when they lose a game.

Guess what, K-State & Mizzou who are supposedly top 10 caliber Big 12 teams, also lost road conf. games by more points. Win most of your home games and find a way to win a game or two on the road and this Cyclone group is a bunch of over achievers. That was a great effort. Remember that Ejim and Godfrey were in High School a year ago. JVB has got to stay on the floor to give this team a chance. His lack of playing time was the killer tonight IMO. This team is severly undermanned coming off the bench and will have to live with this problem the rest of the year. And evidently, they have the mental capacity to pull it off. Pray for NO serious injuries to the five starters and Godfrey or its all over!

I don't like the method you took, but the message is generally accurate.

Was ugly at times but the comeback and go ahead were nice to see. I didn't like the execution of the slowdown but it was a fair game plan I think. The steal DG gave up was extremely unfortunate though. Win or dont cover I say (when I bet against that is !)

Refs were fine..quit whining.

Team plays hard...that is really all you can ask for from the players

I Agree.
We were not full strength.
We came back, played with a lot of heart.
We had our chance, at the end, it was stolen from us.:swoon:
I think we all new we were underdogs at Nebraska, no matter what.
Fred did what he felt would put the ball into the hands of the leading scorer, DG.
Everyone KNEW DG would take the last shot, even Nebraska, so maybe we give some else a chance, some one they weren't concerned with.
The only thing I'd like to see are screens set away from the ball, let Jamie set a pick on Scotty's defender then roll to the basket on a obvious mismatch. Kinda old school but it may have given us a better shot near the end.
Am I giving up on THE TEAM, nope.
Tougher games are ahead, so are chances for upsets, and revenge.
Thanks for the gallant effort gentlemen, keep the faith, I BELIEVE THAT WE WILL WIN,AGAIN,SOON.

Lot to improve upon.

Fred took air out of the ball way too soon, we didn't get any good shots the last 3 minutes, were ahead 62-58, had them on the ropes and didn't score again. He will learn from it, I would be surprised to see him make that mistake again.

Way too many turnovers, and some incredibly bonehead fouls, a few defensive lapses.

Just too many mistakes, hard fought, just too many mistakes to win a road game.

Could not agree more....Very frustrating ending. I felt that this game was going to be decided on DG's play, and his foul trouble really hurt us.... Maybe next time.

ISU finds yet another way to lose a game.
I'm ****** beyond words.

I would amend your statement and just say....WE AT IOWA STATE ALWAYS FIND A WAY TO LOSE A GAME WE @ IOWA STATE SHOULD WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Boys thats why we are Iowa State....We always find another way to Lose!!!!!

I think the blame should be shouldered by Wayne Morgan. That excuse worked like a Timex watch the last four years........why stop now?

Safe to say the refs were not "fine"...if you don't wanna blame them for the loss it's fine. But rarely ever will you see officiating as one sided as it was the last 5-10minutes of a game.

This is a message board...people are entitled to post their thoughts, especially when they are backed up with facts.

The refs may not have been perfect, but there is no mandate that the refs have to call an equal number of fouls. ISU got more fouls called on them because we played stupidly down the stretch on the defensive end. 4:07 in the game, ISU is up 3, and Jake gets called for a reach when he doubles on Diaz - Diaz makes one of 2. 2:08 to go, ISU up 4, JVB fouls out by swiping at the ball from behind and Ubel makes both. 1:10 to go, ISU up 1, Ejim fouls McCray with 17 on the shot clock because he jumps out hard on him 25 feet from the basket and McCray ties the game by hitting 1 of 2. All three of these fouls were ill-advised and Ejim's in particular was just dumb. ISU had the lead, there was no reason for us to be reaching in, hacking at guys, and trying to force the issue. Play good, sound D & contest shots. That can be achieved without giving the refs a reason to blow the whistle which is what our guys did. Instead our guys were out there fouling like we were chasing the lead. People can talk about our offensive sets all they want, but undisciplined D cost us this game in my opinion.

i seriously think we were just gassed, and when that happens, playing sound D becomes a lot harder to do. you get beat by a step and you are forced to reach/swipe. i hope the guys aren't affected going forward-jake and mel are getting worn down already it seems.

That guy is doing this in about every post he makes. Almost feel sorry for him because he's got to live with himself and his crappy attitude every day.

We played the last 3 minutes not to lose instead of playing to win. End of story. That's a game we should have won, crappy officiating or not. We climbed out of a 12 point hole in the second half, then got complacent and moved away from how we dug out of that hole. The inbounds play with 6 seconds was just the cherry on top. You have Christopherson, Anderson, and DG on the floor, and you put it on the freshman. The job of the coach is to put players in the best position to succeed. We failed to do that in the last 3 minutes last night. 37 minutes of Hoiberg ball had us a 4 point lead. 3 minutes of McDermott ball lead us to a 1 point loss.

Did we look tired? Absolutely, but so did Nebraska. We made it easy for them by turning it over and letting them set a defense instead of going after transition buckets. Nebraska played 40 minutes. We played about 32. We were bad out of the gate, and we were bad at the end. Not going to win many games that way.

And people need to realize foul count doesn't mean squat. If one team is driving to the bucket every possession, and the other team is settling for jump shots all the time, there's going to be a discrepancy in fouls.

1. JVB is an idiot for swatting at the ball while he is in foul trouble.

2. DG drives me crazy. On the one hand, our offense is completely inept when he is not on the court. On the other hand, it's only a matter of time until he makes ******* plays that cost us the game. Can't live with him, can't live without him.

I really loved the effort, and thought we deserved to win. A few calls go our way and we aren't having this discussion. But, knowing Nebraska is a very good defensive team, and seeing us IMO outplay them in there building tells me we really are on the right track. Great effort clones.

You need to be realistic about this season. The cuboard is bare and anything good that happens is a bonus. Same things happen next season with a full compliment of players and I'll listen to the complaints. Fred and company are doing a great job with what they've got and any comparison to Mac is a complete insult. We've got 8 players with a couple not ready, one hurt, and one suspended for the game and we should have pulled out a Big 12 road game. No complaints on this end.

This was not the first, nor will it be the last, trip to Lincoln that ends in some unorthodox fashion.

Undermanned, DG has his worst game of the season, Nebraska is playing their best ball in 15 years (really not saying much), some blind striped horses, and only lose by one. Can't say I'm surprised or disappointed.

Some of you ( you know who you are) are way off base and almost seem to enjoy flying off the handle every time ISU has a poor outing. I would hate to see what happens when things don't go well in your personal lives. It can't be good.

I went to the game and have several comments.

DON'T BLAME THE REFS. Being around husker fans a lot (mostly football fans) I am sick of hearing that the refs cost anyone a game. I'm not saying it doesn't happen but it didn't here and usually bad calls can be overcome by good play. Better shooting, offensive rebounds, more depth. That would have won the game.

There was some jerk arse husker fan sitting behind me yelling the whole second half at the refs for not calling fouls on ISU when nu had the ball. Even if they were playing 2 feet off the ball. "WATCH THEIR HANDS REF" "THEY HAVE THEIR HANDS ALL OVER THEM" "HE JUST RAPED HIM". "WHERE ARE THESE REFS FROM, TEXAS". Obviously a bigger football fan. When ISU had the ball and an nu player was guarding him i couldn't resist yelling in a voice imitating the arse "WATCH THEIR HANDS REF". My girlfriend requested that I not do that anymore and in the interest in having a good evening I obliged.

DG needs to distribute the ball more.

I can't wait until ISU has a big guy to play in the paint.

I can't wait until nu fans travel to Iowa City.
