How does this narrative still exist? Mediocre talent, a hell of a lot of heart and coaching.
I don't want to be overly critical of the team, but you are underestimating how much heart we play with. We are not out-talenting many teams. We are not big, overly athletic, quick, and we lacked true shooters and ball handlers. What we do have are two highly skilled guys and several other players that play harder and smarter than the opposition.
Yeah because we were the ones not hustling, and giving up offense rebounds all day.
Because we had the talent to play with anyone. Not pre-recruited ranked four star talent but those "how did all the other schools miss these guys" talent. Niang exploded on the scene last year. McKay was unstoppable with this wing span and speed. Hogue was a beast down low. Morris the best PG in Big 12 and top 5 nationally. Talent was there for a final four run.
Just brushed my teeth, but can't seem to get the taste of UAB nuts out of my mouth. We got completely teabagged.
It's all fundamentals. Boxing out and shot making are as simple as it gets.
There's been several threads this season on just how poorly (awful) this team is at finding their man and shoving their *** into him. I dare you to watch this game again and count how many times we had 1-3 guys surrounding the rim just standing there for a rebound instead of clearing their man out. Absolutely infuriating. It's been a problem all year I can't believe it's never been corrected.
If there ever was a time for people to "deserve" to meltdown it's today. UAB is terrible, TERRIBLE. and somehow ISU was worse today.
This game was easily, easily worse and more embarrasing then the Hampton game.

We've played bad games this season, and here is another one. Running out of gas against a team that really just wants to be on the map, bad combo. Let's hit the weights and hit it hard again next season folks!
Welcome to our first bad tourney game of the Hoiberg era. It sucks but on the bright side no way he goes to the Bulls now!
I've been an ISU fan since the late 60's. I do not remember ever being more disappointed, surprised or this upset about a loss.........not even the one to Hampton. It's not that they lost the game.......it is that they lost the game without giving their best effort. That is the frustration.
This team seemed to let the hype go to their head or something......too often they just thought they could show up and they would win. Yet, even with several lessons this season that that simply was not the case, they never seemed to learn to put out a solid effort for 40 minutes.

You lose and you head home. I don't think they even stay another night if i remember correctly. Probably back in Ames tonight.
Don't worry, Wyoming will beat UNI in 1st round, because I got $1K on it!
