***Official NIU @ ISU Post Game Thread***

Considering Sandvig can apparently play both safety spots, I'm not so sure that the team isn't better with both Sims and Sandvig at the safety spots. I'm not trying to dis O'Connell, but he looked tentative out there tonight.

People are complaining about AA when he hit on 75% of his passes? Sure he had two INT's but they happen. One of them was a deflection. It's the first game, everyone settle down and enjoy the victory.

The guy complaining about Arnaud in this thread is a Hok fan, and undoubtedly thinks Stanzi is Heisman material...

Our lines tonight were not good. AA was getting hit left and right when NIU was sending 4, ARob had one huge run and then average 2.0 ypc the rest of the game, and our defensive line gets ZERO pressure.

Receivers did a much better job not dropping balls, blocking for each other, etc. DBs need to work on not getting sucked in and then killed over the top, but it'll help having Sims back there again next week.

Is there a participation chart that can be accessed somewhere?
I watched the whole game on TV and wondered if any back-up O lineman played. I sure didn't notice any.

The line play on both sides and tackling were the biggest issues tonight.

Again, classic! 1 ISU fan says AA was average, and the other ISU fan starts ripping on Stanzi. LBS in full form. Enjoy your win, worry about Iowa in 9 days.

Apparently our coaches think Spann is only good for 17 carries. I'm at a loss here.

Grady had no place being on that field. Laughable.

Hats off to ISU for the win, once again we are outcoached in a game that actually means something. Seems to be a running theme for this staff.

At any rate, best of luck to ISU with the rest of their season.

Guys on Fox Sport just said that 7-8 wins could happen with AA and A-Rob on their games.

They're right.

If AA can just make consistently good decisions, he can tear things up.

That defense really settled in nicely after that first shaky possession. They worked the nerves out and looked pretty good.
Klein's 15 tackles are a nice debut, too. So the young LBs are racing right along.

I'm happily disappointed in a 27-10 win. NIU really didn't have the horses to hang with us until we beat ourselves with penalties and turnovers. That really had the makings of a total beatdown, and should have been one.

Also, great turnout overall, and fantastic turnout from the students!!! I'm really glad that the AD managed to rectify their end of that problem, and the students turned out in droves. Great job!

Yes, Spann scares the crap outta me. That kid is a beast.

The DL got pressure on two plays. That's two out of the whole game, though.

It's always tough to gauge games like this, so early in the year (aka 1st game of the season). At times, ISU looked dominant, but it's tough to say whether it was ISU's amazing prowess or NIU's ineptness. Is ISU THAT good? Is NIU THAT bad?

We'll find out next week, I suppose.

Thumbs up to the defense. The defense played well and held a very good offense to poor numbers. I have a feeling that another quarterback will be starting for them next week. Three interceptions and a fumble recovery, I like this guys. I thought that Franklin and Robinson had big games tonight on offense. It was a good first win but as Coach Rhodes said we have a lot of work to do. To beat Iowa they are going to have to play much better than they did here.

Cyclones... 1-0 .... only 5 more to go and we are in a bowl again. Co Clones
