Hopefully that is all it is or it could be like Hockey where they say it's just a "lower body" injury and next thing you know they are out for a few weeks.

Walking boot seems to point towards a sprain doesn't it?

It could be anything to keep pressure off the foot - sprain, soreness, fracture, etc. I wore a kind of boot once when I fractured my pinky toe.
