*** OFFICIAL ISU-WVU Postgame Thread ***

-Would like to see Niang play D instead of showboat with 2.5 left on the clock.

-Would like to see Hoiberg take a TO or two and shake up his lineup when we go into these modes where we can't seem to score or defend.

-WVU went 9-12 from 3 in the second half and we still won.

-You have to win 1-2 of these each year at home

-Outside of Ejim, we shot pretty poorly from behind the arc. McGee/Niang/Clyburn went 1-10 from 3.

-We still needed a last second shot to beat a .500 team.

-We still haven't beaten any good teams, but we've got some decent wins.

-I guess it's better to have an off shooting night at home against a team that won't factor into the top half of the conference and still come away with a W.

Are people serious about the timeouts? I would rather have a team that he is building to be mentally tough and have 3 timeouts at the end for huge moments than use them to try and overcome something that is mental. Teams can try and come back over 18 points, but the fact is they are exerting more energy than us in those runs and we will have more energy in the end. I have absolutely no problem with no TOs being called.

Yeah, sometimes Freddy likes to let them just play through it. Larry did the same thing a lot.

One thing shows just exactly how lazy and not enthused we were tonight... WV's offensive rebounds. I swear every time they got another offensive rebound I was going to throw my remote through the TV screen. That's just being lazy when you don't get defensive rebounds. No excuse for that.

It kills me to agree with you...but...I agree with you. :wubclub:

Coach Hoiberg once again waits for large leads to dissolve into very close games before taking a timeout when he has four to burn! Also there could easily have been a foul called after the last inbound pass by W.V. and just fortunate it was not called. A cannot imagine other coaches watching big leads dissolve late in the game without calling a timeout. This should not have been this close of a game, but when you watch loosely gaurded threes roll in one after the other, you get your teams attention to defense.

Thank God he is the one that Head Coach by his name and gets paid to make the decisions and not you. Just guessing he has a little better idea of how to handle his team than you would.

Will you love it when they lose one of these? Hoiberg acts like he gets rollover timeouts that can be used in future games. These are not pros.

Every single season a team plays a game that either does not go their way or they do not play to their potential. Undoubtedly both happened to the Cyclones tonight but the difference between a winning program and a perennial losing program is finding a way to win games like this. LOOK at HILTON??? How can you question Hoiberg after bringing back a winning program?? Yes let's bring back McDoormat because he wins at Creighton!!!! Then we can go back to losing games like these ALL the time!!! Look at Cyclone history and see no conference game is a guaranteed win at any time under any coach.

The only things I will say is that you have to defend the 3 better......no matter where they are shooting from.....when a team starts to get hot like that. You can't assume they are going to start missing. If they want to shoot it from 35 feet....then you have to start defending at 40 feet.

The other thing is this team has got to get better at rebouding on the defensive end. Way too many offensive rebounds for WVU tonight. ISU was great at rebounding in the non-conference, but that is not showing up in the Big 12 so far. Has to improve.

Glad they got the win though.

I really hope that we get at least 1 player between Edozie and Armardi that can defend in the paint. Percy is a huge liability. I really was hoping he would have made some improvements after last year. Unfortuantely, he's probably never going to be a decent defensive player, which really makes him a role player at best.

Hopefully we recruit over him in 2014.

Iowa State did what I expected foul trouble early with Niang getting quick fouls, guessed right on calling WV score. Thought we were going to keep the 70+ going but what can you do when they throw up prayers 35+ feet out and having them answered. Fred yeah maybe could have called a timeout when they cracked our lead to single digits, but in the end we got the W and as it has been said over and over KU and this game will be the two biggest learning experiences this team will go through. Showing we have to keep the heat on from the START to the FINISH.

-The offense works best when Niang is on the court, hence our scoring problems tonight with him in foul trouble. IMO

-Ejim is a stud. He had another "quiet" 16 points.

-For some reason our guys don't like to square up when they should, and therefore don't see wide open guys.

-I didn't like Hoiberg trying to run the clock late, just try to get a good shot and score.

-Clyburn scares me running the point, hopefully Bubu fixes that.

-Sky is still the limit for this team.

If I remember correctly, most of their threes were contended very well, but they just hit them. And I don't see rebounding getting a whole lot better, because we are at a disadvantage to most teams size-wise

I loved the CYCLONE POWER chant at the end during the FTs. It didn't even stop between FTs. That's the way it should be every free throw.

Where else did he need to use a timeout? If the had issues getting the ball down the court on the last poss they would have used the last timeout.

Hindsight being what it is, I thought he should have taken one when they went on their 8-0 run to cut it from 15 to 7 with about 5 minutes to go. He waited until after the last media timeout with 3 1/2 minutes left and the lead was down to 3. He called that timeout 10 seconds after the media timeout. Hey, I'm happy we won. Hoiberg knows what he's doing.

I was surprised Fred put the ball in Clyburn's hands over Korie at the end of the game, he scares me handling the ball under pressure, but he made a great play.

This whole game was completely worth it getting to see the giant Georges cutout wave his arms to Sweet Caroline after the game. That was priceless.
