***Official ISU/KSU Postgame Thread***

Not saying I've given up on Sam, but someone needs to step up and make a play. I can't think of a time that's happened with Sam as QB. May not be his fault, but a good leader can sometimes help those difference makers to emerge when the game is on the line.

But as I said before, hopefully more experience with the offense does the trick.
More simpleton speak - lose and immediately blame the QB. Sam was very efficient today. He can't block on 3rd/4th down and less than 2 yards to go. Not once did the staff put the ball in his hands in that situation and we failed at many of them in the 2nd half.

A brilliant move by CPR these last two years.Start off so horrible that reasonably competent effort is a cause for hope.
This is looking so much like last year. There will be blowouts and in the other gamed I look forward to what basic play we **** up when the game is on the line. Oh, and sprinkle in some game-changing, bs calls.

Sure we showed we aren't a top 19 team, but you're saying that's only a reasonably competent effort? You realize we were 1 play away from beating the #20 team in the country in a game where the refs gave 4 free points and we had a fluke turnover? Sure its frustrating and we could have done some things to win the game but you are doing nothing but showing that you are filled with crazed hate with statements like that.

Reasons ISU lost and any team will have a bad time with this....

- No scoring in second half
- Horrid short yardage blocking and playcalling
- Prevent defense at the end of the 1st half - WHAT THE ****????
- 3 key drops by receivers in 4th quarter
- Inability to pressure the QB
- Running game for other team - can't stop, won't stop
- Inconsistent (and not really even existent) running game for ISU

Right. So far they have one terrible game against a supposedly lesser opponent and one game they came within a hair of beating a supposedly superior opponent. The only conclusion to draw is that we don't know what the hell we have in this year's team yet. Wait and see where they stand at season's end instead of burying them after two weeks.

This is my least favorite. With 3 minutes left, why go prevent? What you had was working (at least for the last few possessions), why change? Worst case is you give up a big play, but then you get the ball back with some time. Instead, you let them nickel and dime you down the field, score with 20 seconds left, and take all the momentum.

But what do I know; I am not a "wizard"...

I don't think anyone's really considering what I'm saying, but dismissing it has Sam bashing. That's not what I'm intending to do at all.

The difference in this game came down to someone making a play in the fourth quarter. KSU did, twice, and we didn't. For whatever reason, our offense can't seem to get that score with the game on the line, and I can't think of a time that has happened with Sam in as QB. In other words, the intangibles that people talk about.

I agree that he played a pretty good game, but the name of the game is winning. Not scoring at all in the second half is not going to win many games.

Close games do not mean competent play. We lost because except for 1 quarter we could not make the needed simple plays. KSU played poorly and was able to go through the motions and just turn it up in the 4th when they needed to. Just like 5 out of the past 6 years.

Sam ******* DID make plays. That's the point and the fact. Period.

There were 3 key absolute drops by receivers in the 2nd half that impeded drivers. 3 great passes, 3 drops.

Sam also can't do the work of the line and RB on short yardage, nor make better play calls.

I actually thought Sam played well today, at least overall he was "ok". I find it really crazy that he has yet to win a game he has started in. He just can't get over that hump. If he (or ANYONE for that matter) makes ONE MORE PLAY today, we win. But they didn't. Is that on Sam? I don't think so, but it is still odd that after all the games he's started, he has won one of them.

I honestly feel bad for him because worse QB's have won games they've started just by sheer accident and luck...

Richardson won his first 2 starts.

It is all about winning and when you are not winning you tend to get simpletons nitpicking the starting QB even though he will probably grade out higher than almost any other player.

But, but but but why didn't he throw the ball to himself for 90 yards and do a backflip into the end zone?

Yes you are not a wizard. The reason you go prevent is to prevent the big momentum shift that you described. Giving up a field goal would have been no big deal. A touchdown, well you saw the effect of that.

The result of a field goal would still leave us a 2 possession lead with us getting the ball to start the half. With the way our defense was playing in the first half we surly would have held them to a field goal on that last play if the refs didn't give them the TD. But don't let logic and reason get in your way.

Still seems like neither of you are comprehending what I'm saying, probably my fault for not being able to communicate clearly.

You are both talking about tangible "statistical" play, while I'm talking about the intangibles of positively affecting the play of your teammates. I still haven't heard anything that addresses that.

In any case, I have pointed out that I'm NOT advocating switching QBs, and I am a fan of Sam's. I hope he can get it turned around, but with Sam in we've never really produced in the second half of a contested game.

If you don't think we played better than "reasonably competent" than you are doing no more than proving my last point.

No, their play was competent. KSU did not play poorly. Quit crying.

Your contention is contingent on KSU playing well. They didn't, and we still lost.
Like I said- reasonably competent. You are just proving my point of how low the bar is by suggesting losing due to an inability to make simple plays is more than reasonably competent.

I remember when ******* away a win in which the other team played like they were asleep made me feel like last week did.
