***OFFICIAL IOWA/ISU WEEK THREAD***

I'd give anything to get a NFL QB back like CJ.

Why are you trolling Stanley's first start, when it was better than at least 5 of Parks games last year?

Park never had a game with 3 fumbles and an interception.

I'm glad you think completion percentage means more than turnovers because it appears the turnovers are something you'll have to get used to this year.

His Qb rate was higher, and I said his ball security was a concern.

If Park is so good, why did he struggle so much last year?

He might, and that is why breaking in a young QB is a tough deal. Park had some brutally bad games last year and Clone fans seem pretty high on him still?

Iowa 6/15, 79 yards 84.2 QB rate
TCU 7/15, 90 yards 97.1 QB rate
Oklahoma St 6/12, 93 yards 109.3 QB rate
Texas 7/13, 42 yards 87.7 QB rate
OU. 16/29, 160 yards 124.3 QB rate

Stanley 8/15 125 yards 176 QB rate

Ouch, that was some pretty brutal quarterback play for Park last year in his first year starting. So Stanley wasn’t great, but he certainly wasn’t Jacob Park bad.

Not going to take time to look it up but looks like you took Parks worst games to compare to.

Yeah just wanted to show that a first year starter at QB is gonna struggle some. Stanley is going to have more struggles this year as well. I just don't know why @CyTwins is trying to troll Stanley so hard here, when he loves Park who also struggled some his first year?

Park never had 3 fumbles and an interception against a bad team plus Stanley played last year. You're really reaching here and making yourself look stupid.

Park was a late arrival on campus while Stanley had a year of practice under his belt.

I think Stanley will be pretty good. He threw a couple dangerous balls, but made pretty decent decisions. Ball security will be better as he gets a better feel in the pocket and when a hits coming. He will have some rough games but the OL and running game make those growing pains more tolerable.

Unlike the last ISU staff(s) hopefully these guys can help QBs progress. Jantz, Barnett, Richardson all looked promising only to regress. I'm trying to keep my optimism in check but I really like Parks development over the past several games.

Are you still expecting him to only drop back 15-20 times a game? The more he drops back the more he is going to turn it over.

That isn't true. Stanley isn't going to average a fumble or INT on 25% of his drop back over the whole season. He struggled in his first start with ball protection, you are trying way too hard here.

How do you know that? The more he drops back the more mistakes he's going to make.

I'm pretty sure in college sacks aren't counted as pass attempts, and neither would the scramble. The 15 attempts were all throws, then the sacks are counted against his rushing stats. That is why he had 4 rushes for -23 yards. 2 sacks, the scramble and a 4 yard rush running out of the pocket.

Stanly did pretty well outside holding onto the ball when hit. The receivers dropped 3 or 4 balls, he should have been 11 or 12 for 15.

Parks first game he played he was 6 for 15 for 79 yards.
First game he played? First game he started? He shared snaps for the first half dozen games he played here.
NM - I went and looked up the stat you found. It was first game played...and he didn't come into the game until late in the third quarter. But yeah, totally the same circumstances...

You might want to consider that the defense he was up against in that game should have been a bit better than the defense that Stanley was up against last Saturday. Unless you want to claim Wyoming's D is the equivalent of Iowa's D?

Iowa #29
TCU #77
Texas #105
Oklahoma St. #98
OU #111

He didn’t face tough passing defenses.

Listen, @CyTwins here is the one trying to troll Stanley. I’m just pointing out that it isn’t always smooth sailing for a new QB. He wants to troll that since Stanley had some fumbled issues in his first game he will automatically have those issues in every single game. Dumb really.

I'm not trolling anyone. He barely did anything besides hand the ball off and still managed to have 3 fumbles and an interception. You expect him to drop back more and not turn the ball over? That doesn't make sense.

I still don't get why you are trying to troll this? Football is about winning. Iowa won the game. Stanley outplayed a 1st Rd QB prospect in Allen. Anytime you can make mistakes and still beat a NFL QB on a team getting top 25 votes, by 21, that is a good day.

Now you're moving the goal posts. The only comparison that can be made at this point is first game vs first game. We know Parks has improved (how much is up for debate). Stanley is unknown except for this first game...and against a weak opponent, with a much better line in front of him, he was somewhat less than stellar. I will grant you that missing your center might have played a role, but the much vaunted Iowa linemen should have been able to adjust to his absence against the Cowboys, don't you think?
